The defenceless transport rule is just an optimization rule, take it out and it changes nothing for the game.

Giving transports defence @1 makes them way to powerfull again, although not as bad as in clasic and revised where they had defence @1 and effectively where the escorts of battleships and carriers.

Transports had some form of protection in the real war but that was hardly worth mentioning in the scale of this game.
If a Battleship only has a defence and offence of 4 how bad would the defence of a transport be?  1 would mean 1/4 the strength of a battleship.
If i have to chose between a battleship and a complete convoy of transports i would go for the battleship even all ships ramming it would not sink the battleship.

You might as well give subs AA defence as a sub had a deck gun that could shoot at aircraft.

What do you meant Shadow Hawk by "just an optimization rule, take it out and it changes nothing for the game"?
"Take it out" and you radically change outcomes in naval battle.

Can you explained it a little further please?

He's referring to the rule that you don't need to keep rolling dice until the attackers hit. I think you should just ignore his first paragraph.

With the current ruleset the defenceless transport rule is a rule that can be removed from the game without any negative effect.
Just for the record there is no rule for AA guns but they fall under the same situation. ( or i dont know the rule but we apply the same ideas )

If you would not have the defenceless transport rule the attacker would have to roll dice untill he hit all the transports and since transports cant shoot back given enough time the attacker will win. So saying since you will win and we both know that for a fact lets skip the rolling and ill take the stuff off the board.

Same goes if you attack a lone AA gun with any unit, the AA gun can only shoot once at air. So if you only attack with air roll the AA step then skip the rest and remove it from the board.
If you dont attack with air just remove it from the board and dont bother with dice.

Basicaly giving an infinite number of rolls you will hit an infinite number of times so just skip the rolling part.

When playing F2F and say germany is attacking with its main stack ( 30inf, 10 art, 15 tanks or something ) against 1-3 russian inf we only roll the 3 russian inf and asume germany would have hit at least 3 times. Shave a few mins of the game Cheesy
