AA1941 is currently $15.99 with free Prime shipping on Amazon US.  Great price to get a bunch more sculpts for the game and/or to populate your other games with the nation-specific pieces unique to the 1941 game.

It’s been about that price on Amazon for over a year now… but yes, it’s cheap.

Note in particular that A&A 1941 can be used to provide three nation-specific sculpts that Global 1940.2 lacks: a British-design UK transport ship, a Soviet-design USSR aircraft carrier, and an American P-40 Warhawk as the Flying Tiger unit for China, all in the correct colours.

I’m pretty sure without even thinking hard, the number is higher than three.

Does Germany in 1940.2 have Tiger Tanks and FW-190s? Does the USSR have IS-2 tanks in 1940.2? I was under the impression 1941 has a ton of new sculpts, but (stupidly) has repeats for the wrong countries (like “JAPANESE” Tigers and American IS-2s)… but I was unaware that 1940.2 had those sculpts… I thought they used Panthers and T-34s.

What is mainly missing from my POV to boost a unit packs for cheap is Artillery in this game.
I would have bought 2 copies without hesitation if there was Inf-Art-Tank in it.
I’m not enough of a pieces-junky for more Tigers in my already fully 2 loaded boxes of German’s pieces.

It doesn’t have artillery, but you can always buy extra artillery from HBG (Lord knows I did). I think the point is here, for $15, I think you’d be challenged to buy all the relevant ships, planes and tanks that DO come in 1941, for the same price if you were to try and pick them up from HBG (sans-game).

I did my best to fill my trays too, and my German tray includes things such as Panthers, Tigers, Me-109s, FW-190s and more (I think I have 66 infantry for each country… and this is just for my 1942SE game)…

And right there I realized my 1942.2 and 41 games are not actually that big of a collection.

  • That is some awesome tray porn, Wolf.  I need that…

Well, the trays themselves are Stack-On 13 Compartment Storage Organizers… you can get them from your local hardware store (I think I got mine from Lowes or Home Depot), or you can pick them up on Amazon:
    https://www.amazon.com/Stack–SBR-13-Compartment-Organizer-Removable/dp/B000AM8BBI/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1461292343&sr=1-1&keywords=Stack-On+SBR-13+13+Compartment+Storage+Organizer+Box+with+Removable+Dividers%2C+Red

As for over-stuffing them, beyond combining the base games of 1941 and 1942, I did a lot of extra unit hunting from E-Bay and HBG.

Finally, I also customized my bins with WWII national flag stickers… I just made/found my own flag JPGs and ordered them from VistaPrint on-line (small rectangular product labels).

  • Nice job on separating the pieces. Much easier and nicer to grab what you want instead of people fishing and digging for the desired piece. Where sis you get those trays and about how much do they run you sir? Thanks, Todd

Another tray option are the various models of Zerust / Tuff Tainer tackle boxes and storage trays made by Flambeau.  Do a Google search for zerust flambeau and you’ll find lots of pictures.  The ones I use (you can see a picture here, under the table: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=32700.0) are called, if I remember correctly, Tuff Tainer model 5007.  What’s nice for piece junkies like myself is that the blue divider tabs can be positioned to suit different compartmentalization needs, and that you can order additional tabs (I think I have a couple of hundred of them) separately from the boxes.  I get the boxes at my local Canadian Tire store, in the fishing supplies section.  I bought the extra tabs online, as I recall.

The bins I use are Stack-on SBR-13 storage bins (up to 13 compartments, some manipulation with dividers can be done). You can find them at your local hardware store and/or online… I picked up mine locally at the Home Depot… they ran $3 to $4 each… here’s the link to Home Depot’s listing for it… in a previous post, I linked the same thing on Amazon, though they are charging more. With their size and ability to adjust the compartment size, I have found them to be just the perfect size for individual nations (not too big or too small), so I have five bins for the major nations and one “ad-hoc” bin for misc and minor nation(s). I especially like the “one large compartment” which is perfect for dumping all your infantry into… hard to get a single bin that big in most any other type of storage container of this size. On my configuration, I use a 9-compartment setup, which you can see in the pics above… the biggest being for infantry, and larger (double compartments) for ships and tanks, with 4 smaller compartments for fighters, bombers, artillery and AAA.
