• OK so here it goes, turn 1, 2 German subs attacked the British cruiser in SZ 91. Cruiser was destroyed as was 1 German sub….British non combat moved a transport to drop off 2 Infantry in Gibraltar on their turn. (Not sure if that is legal but it was allowed.) The British also moved the destroyer from SZ 71 in South Africa over to SZ 87 which is adjacent to SZ 91. So on the next German turn, is the transport auto killed and the German Sub then allowed to attack the destroyer in SZ 87?

  • So yes the German sub and British transport are both occupying the same SZ in 91 right now

    No unit can make 2 separate attacks in 2 different territories or sea zones on the same turn. I believe that the sub would have to choose which attack to do. Even an auto-kill is an attack.

  • GHG is correct. The sub either stays in sz 91 or it moves to sz 87. It cannot do both.

    Also - you are unsure whether the UK non com landing in Gib is legal with the G sub in that sz. Yes it is. A sub does not render a sz hostile - that requires a surface warship.

    For transports there is a rule that it has to be escorted to ignore a submarine but afaik thats only for attacks not non combat.

    Indeed. This rule prevents from offloading for an amphibious assault during Combat Move /Conduct Combat.
    But for the purpose of moving the transport, the enemy submarine still can be ignored. (So that rule does not address “ignoring” but “unloading”.)

    @rulebook:

    However, a transport is not allowed to offload land units for an amphibious assault in a sea zone containing 1 or more ignored enemy submarines unless at
    least 1 warship belonging to the attacking power is also present in the sea zone at the end of the Combat Move phase.

    Not sure the crew addressed the upper part of your question;  in order to do an amphibious invasion when a sub is present, it has to be submerged.    Subs “don’t block movement” but a transport cannot unload units in a hostile sz, this means that you have to bring (or keep…you are declaring combat against the sub) at least 1 naval combat unit to “attack” the sub, if you don’t have a DD, the sub can choose to fight or flee.  Once the sub has run away or been sunk, the TT can land.

  • Official Q&A

    Subs don’t make a sea zone hostile.  You do have to have a warship to escort a transport for an amphibious assault from a sea zone that contains an enemy sub, but you don’t have to attack it.  You can just ignore it and go ahead with the assault.

  • … and - as mentioned above and just for reference - this is the relevant rule:

    @rulebook:

    However, a transport is not allowed to offload land units for an amphibious assault in a sea zone containing 1 or more ignored enemy submarines unless at least 1 warship belonging to the attacking power is also present in the sea zone at the end of the Combat Move phase.

  • But what about unloading into a friendly land during non-combat. Can the sub there also be just ignored? I think the OP question is concerned about this and not amphibious assault.
