I’ve got Memoir '44 but only played it twice, not my cup of tea really. I should sell it on eBay I guess.
Another new product with plastic AA style miniatures!!!

Isn’t Flames of War a miniatures game?

The pieces are top notch. Each side has 8 different units plus air and the quality is FMG style but made from modeling plastic.
In this game you roll for initiative and alternate moving pieces. You commit up to two pieces to each battle and add modifiers based on terrain and unit type and the units chosen are both rolled and added and finally compared to a chart to determine any loses. The game comes with nifty dice including German, British Paratrooper dice and 2 others. The units move by area on a mounted hardbound map. The rulebook is 1st class including all the history and OOB of the battle in thick glossy pages. Victory Cities are assigned for locations on the map as well as combat loses.
Air power is largely abstracted but effects supply and can perform interdiction. The rules are about 18 pages with another 20+ for history and lots of nice maps and info.
Totally worth $40!
Isn’t Flames of War a miniatures game?
it is but this is a stand alone boardgame that does not use them. They made two versions a more expensive version is a conversion game to allow for FOW miniatures as the tactical element and the other game as a strategic component for larger moves. I am not sure if the more expensive game has miniatures, but i know its alot more complicated.

Looks great although I wish there were more plastic pieces.

These pieces can be used to make:
Paratroopers for UK, Germany, USA 1-2-1-4 ( +1 first round)
Waffen SS for Germany 5-4-2-9 unit
Tank Destroyers for Germany and USA 3-4-2-7 unit
Heavy Tanks for Germany 4-4-2-8
Heavy artillery for Germany and USA 3-2-5
Panzer Grenadiers for Germany 2-2-2-4
plus glider troops for USA… these are jeeps not sure how to use them.
-
So the scale is A&A appropriate?
-
yes perfectly. just the colors are off ( grey and dark green)
-
This would make for an awesome advanced BotB game then!
-
Looking at the game set-up the map looks rather… empty. There doesn’t look like there’s too many pieces involved really, and AA1942 is like 25 bucks on eBay.

It looks like you get about 45 pieces total in the Flames of War game so if I buy it, it wouldn’t be for the pieces as that would come to about $1 a piece.
If you wanted extra pieces AA1942 would be a better buy.
If you just want different pieces, I’d wait for FMG.

IS this a stand alone game or do you need flames of war mintures?
also is Flames of war a good mintures game? is it realistic or is it just WW2 40k?
-
Flames of war is horrible IMO.
This new product is a stand alone game and does not involve ‘miniatures’
You get like 45 pieces but they are very nice, and 7 dice 2 German, 2 US, 2 British Paratroopers, one aircraft die.
The large map can easily be used to make a AA game and you get combat arrows to indicate attacks.
If you want unique plastic pieces only it may or may not be worth $40, but i think you can buy it under $40 on ebay.

This is the second in a line called FIRESTORM.
the first was: FIRESTORM - The Bagration Campaign which is set on the eastern front in 1944.
i ordered two copies from a place called The War Store, its on clearance for under $40, $36.95 in think, i got two copies for $79.93(thats including shipping). the pieces look good enough for me, plus the game seems like it could be kinda fun to play, which is what its all about in the first place…having fun. check it out!

Here is an upclose look at the pieces:
-
yes thats more like it. You see these are perfect for AA.
-
Are those flight stands that come with the airplanes?
-
I just sent them an email asking them to please sell the pieces individually. They said they would pass the suggestion on to the rest of the team. If we all hound them then they might just do it so we could buy them without paying the 60 or 70 dollar retail for the entire box.
Here is the contact info.

I paid $38 per game.
