• My question is about Islands.  The rules do not specify that it cost one movement for planes to go from island to the sea zone surrounding the island or island chain.  I’ve been playing with the notion that it costs one movement to go from the island to the surrounding sea zone for taking off or landing.  Any insight would be much appreciated.  :-)

  • It should be in the rules IIRC. I dont have the rulebook at hand as we speak, but it states somewhere that crossing a coastal line counts as one move.

  • An island  is considered a territory within a seazone, (page 26, 3rd paragraph), therefore it would be 1 move to leave the island.

  • Thanks guys.  But why is it when planes that are defending when are from an AC. If the AC is destroyed or damaged.  The planes are only allowed to move one space and takes two moves to get to an island or land in most cases.

Game balance and playability, considering the defender generally enjoys the advantage and this encourages suicidal sub strikes in hopes of destroying undefended (or lightly defended/escorted) carriers.  But if you need a reason: it’s because your aircraft are essentially performing CAP duties while it’s not your turn (which is why they’re aloft when a sub sneak attacks, and not stuck on the carrier).  As a result, they’re all low on fuel, of course.

And you have already moved or will move your planes on that turn. Just allowing 1 extra move to land on an adjacent island/AC when attacked is a benefit to the defender.

  • Thanks for helping me out.  :-)
