• situation: germany conquered egypt T1, UK didn’t conter,syria/irak inf is gone. (by withdrawing or killed by kamikazefighter from burma)

result: suez is closed for all but not defendet by UK.

question: is it possible in G2 to conquer undefended syria/irak from egypt and pass trough suez with navals in same combat-movement-phase or just in non-combat-movement-phase or just in G3 ?

argument: 1.) in rulebook it is forbidden passing canals if one adjected territory is controled by your opponent but here suddenly it is not controled anymore.
2.) in real life it’s easy to block a canal with sand, stones or something you don’t need military forces but attacking forces can protect the canal if they do not have to fight.

other opinion by IAAPA (www.axiesandallies.net): you have to control canalterritories at the beginning of your turn. this means above germany can use suez just in T3.
Is this offiziell? a little bit strange in my eyes.

  • i think we discussed this before, and they are right - no right of passage until you’ve actually held it.
The problem is you have to announce all combat move first. You can not announce new combat move subsequent to new combat.
This means that if SYR is held by the UK, then you have to take it in combat before you can announce your combat move to move your ships through.
    does this make sense?

  • But when you delcare an amphibious, and there are enemy ships in the water, you can still take out the ships in a sea battle then land. It says so in the rules. If the Sea battle fails the amph assult fails, so could the same rules apply to this too? You can attack Syr, and if it fails, you don’t go throught but if it doesn’t you can?
