I saw on Smorey Swamp that Commanders and Tactics WW2 Deck Building Game was played at Gencon. I have been trying to find the game on BGG with no luck. If anyone knows this game and can provide a link that would be awesome.
The Shogun is a TripleA map and currently in Beta and is still therefore a WiP.
It is a collaborative map between Ebbe (Graphics) & TheDog (Code)
A historical map set about 1561 Japan, intended for many players to play a Free for All with the balance being played by the Hard AI
11 playable factions, comprising 10 Samurai Clans and the Ikko Ikki with Wako Pirates collectively called the The Rebels, all in their starting historical Provinces/Territories
Clan Politics has 3 relationships, War (default), Neutral and Allied
Large size map 11264x6140px, amongst one of the largest TripleA maps, with Unit size equivalent to 68x68px (54x54px x1.25 unit size). It is hoped that this is usable on 4K screens.
The map has lots of Mountain Passes, lots of uncrossable Mountains and Rocky Shores channelling forces.
WE have done on our own longtime ago based on the xeno game but we change the rules, map and chart.278999193_2826327174327899_1594387835970128913_n.jpg 278671828_728074555207246_8848699411888115333_n.jpg 279156672_3237479476496915_4160741075211625688_n.jpg
Thank you for this mod and the fix for the game.
I’ve been playing around with it and have found a few things that seem to improve the game.
Firstly stability, I’ve tried setting affinity to run only 1 processor but this doesn’t seem to make much difference to the crashing.
What seems to work is using a directx wrapper.
There is a program called dgvoodoo2 which is mainly intended for older games running either glide or old directx. It acts as a bridge to convert to DX11/12.
It does sometimes trigger a virus protector but seems clean on windows defender. I have never had any problems with it.
I’m not sure the forums rules on posting links, but the program is easily found on the owners (Dege’s) website.
Put the main program (dgvoodooCpl) and the contents of the MS folder in the A&A game directory
Then run the program
Click the .\ button so the settings only apply to that game
The click the directX tab
Set the VRAM to the max 4096mb
I tick force Vsync (not sure if this is necessary)
Untick dgVoodoo watermark (if you leave it on it is a nice way to know the program is doing something
You can force resolution but as the game lets you go up to 4k I don’t both and forcing Antialiasing seems to create a grid effect so I leave these unforced and app driven.
Click apply and close the dgvoodoo app.
Launch the game as normal.
I played 3 battles of a WW2 campaign with no crashes at 1080p resolution in the game. Only a little graphical glitch with tire tracks very briefly projecting infront of the units that happened for a second a few times. No crashes.
It seemed to run ok with no slowdown. Not tested 4k yet.
Ok the second issue seems to be related to windows scaling for 4K displays on windows 10 and 11. If you run a 4k display and have windows scale as recommended (usually 150%) to make menus not tiny then you will find when you launch the game the text doesn’t quite line up with boxes.
The simple way is to go to windows settings, click on system on the left, then display
On the scale box change the % to 100 (instead of the recommended 150%)
Then launch the game.
There are settings in the properties for each application which are supposed to allow you to individually accommodate for scaling. Sadly I find these are hit and miss and in A&A’s case need to be reapplied each time.
Maybe eventually they will be updated to be effective.
I get the impression this game is a bit of a black sheep but I am sure there are a few people who might like to play it.
I hope this helps others with the crashing, I can only say it seems to have improve things on my system.
@ryandascienti Looks cool, but I think Europe is both too crowded on absolute terms and having too small territories with respect to what most of the rest of the world has.
I think you would be better either further increasing the area Europe occupies on the map or decreasing the number of zones into which you have split this area. For example, you could represent England (comprising Wales) as a single territory (instead of the current two), have a single territory (instead of the current two) for northern Italy and have two territories (instead of the current three) for the Italian Peninsula, and so on.
The Urals are rather small mountains and are economically important as a source of minerals: I’m alway perplexed when I see anyone having them impassable.
@ivabaxley larry was supposed to make one if WOTC would have not let him go. I bugged him about this for years just about when Pacific 1940 came out. But at that time i also bugged him about a WW1 game…and a space version of AA…oh well.
Let me introduce you to Phoney War, a grand strategy WW2 game for 2-3 players. Phoney War consists of two games in one: Race to Berlin, the 3 player version, begins in 1939 and features a setup inspired by history. Phoney War: Prelude to War is our two player version, and begins sometime in the early 1930s. It plays out very differently from the three player game, and should appeal to the alternate history crowd, or those who just like two player games more.
Some features: Diceless combat resolve. Fog of War mechanic. East and West share a common enemy in Germany, but are nonetheless competitors - single player victory!
Please see my instagram to follow along with the development story of Phoney War, and read some primers on our original and intriguing game mechanics.

Hello, does anyone have any help or info about buying The struggle for Asia game? I already have the Europe one from a few years ago and tried reaching out to Oxford game design to purchase as I did the first time. I haven’t heard back in about two weeks. Just wanting to know if they are still in business to sell and if not if there’s anyone who know where I can find the game still.
It appears there were a few misprints and missed updates in the files on the Game Crafter site. Apologies to those who have purchased this game prior to today.
**Here is a list of errata and clarifications from any copies purchased prior to 23/08/2021:
CONTROL AND ROUND TRACKER MAT
ARVN Starting Production Points should be 22, not 23.
PARU Starting Production Points should be 13, not 23.
2) GAME BOARD/MAP
US Control Markers missing from the following territories;
** Bankok, Nkhon Phanom, Ubon Ratachathani.
PARU Control Markers missing from all Thailand territories.
ARVN Control Marker missing from Sadec.
Country names missing.
3) RULE BOOK
Page 2: Armored Personnell Carriers are NOT in game (removed from components list).
Page 7: Special Unit Rules and Placements: ARVN - “New ARVN units are placed in Saigon. If Saigon is controlled by Communist forces, ARVN may not place new units.”
Page 7: Units and their Values: “*Helicopters are available to purchase by the US and ARVN player powers only.”
Page 8: ANZUS: Anzus units deploy in Saigon, or if Saigon is controlled by Communist forces, Dixie Station.
Page 11: Special Political Rules and Effects: Anti Communist Forces: The Silent War (Cambodia and Laos): add to first line “(Units starting the game in these territories do not count unless they move and remain in Cambodia or Laos)”
Page 13: Bombers: “You may not conduct bombing on any territory you control”
Page 13: Bombers: Bombing the Ho Chi Minh Trail: “Bombing the Ho Chi Minh Trail is not considered invading and therefore does not allow the VC player to gain additional troops”
Can Covert units move on the covert map?
No, covert troops remain in place. If they move, they are no longer covert and must be placed on the main board.
PARU has units starting the game on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Are those territories US owned at the start of the game?
Those territories begin the game as ‘contested’/occupied and not controlled. If the Communist forces do not take them by the end of the first round and PARU or other Anti Communist forces remain, they will be controlled by the US (or other Anti Communist force).
If you really love this game, how can you put up with that old WinXP Small (48x48) Icon on your desktop? I remade that icon with Inkscape and here is the Vector file along with the png export.
AARTS Icon Remade 512 Official Flags.png AARTS Icon Remade Vector 512 Official Flags Upload.tsvg
(Due to forum restrictions on file types, above originally svg file was changed into tsvg. I tested with Inkscape and it should open with no problem. But the file extension should really be svg, instead of tsvg.)
I like the rough idea, “B&BP in SPACE!”, but I do wonder about the execution. Part of the joy of B&BP, as I understand, was in the mixture of ship-to-ship action and then the close-quarters combat.
Nail that part, without the downsides of the original (once built, the ships were too big to fit back in their boxes and the peg system used to hold the pirates in place never worked right), and you might just have something.
Says the guy on the sidelines, to the guy that would have to pony up to do the work…
But I think that there are two things to recommend you get if you want to really go for it. The first simple and cheap, the second anything but.
First: get more dice: Amerika Custom Dice: D12, 6 dice for $3. You will be rolling dice, why not make sure to get enough?
Second: Bring in the Heavies! This link takes you to all of the heavy attack units you could want: tanks, tank destroyers, fighters, and bombers. This is where to go to beef up your Amerika experience. The pieces are color coordinated, so make sure to get the right colors for your powers.
As of today (2021 0207), HBG is selling full copies of their Amerika game for $49.95. That is more than 1/2 off the retail price of $119.95. The pieces are in the second edition colors, the rest of the game is the same.
(First Edition Colors: Germans in Grey, Japan in Burnt Orange, Allies in OD Green. Second Edition Colors: Germans in Black, Japan in Yellow Gold, Allies in UK Tan.)
Listened to audiobook on Thucydides’ History of Peloponnesian War. Has anyone played board game titled Hellenes: Campaigns of the Peloponnesian War? Would make a great multiplayer game. A&A has WWI, Napoleon, Punic 270 BC, variants, but not Peloponnesian Wars (Athens vs Sparta). Would be interested in working together with anyone willing to develop a Greek city state variant for this website.
