Did defending submarines loose the option to retreat in Revised?  I know they could retreat in classic, provided there was somewhere to retreat TOO.

If they can retreat still, please post page # from manual.  thanks

  • Defending SUBS may only submerge.  This removed the ONLY defensive retreat in the game.

Offensive SUBs have teh choice to submerge or retreat with all other Naval units (they can submerge on their own, but can only withdraw with every other naval unit to the same sea zone)

This is in LHTR under the description of Comabt, specifically under Step 7:  Press Attack or retreat.  Scan down to teh Naval Combat section, then down to Submarines.  It is JUST BEFORE Step 8:  Capture Territory.  And if you have printed LHTR, it would be on page 8 of 21.

Dagnabbit…LHTR is such a kill joy…hehe.  Well, sometimes it is.

Anyway, without retreating my subs and letting them die instead, I actually (don’t have a heart attack now) caused grevious bodily harm to the attacking forces in such capacity that they left my 2 fighters alive and limped home instead.

    :)

About time my German navy caught abreak!

  • It is not just LHTR Jen…

OM Page 16 has teh same restriction, defending subs may ONLY submerge (or stay and fight/take hits/die)

The LHTR correction was to allow ALL attackign units to retreat (OM has a contradiciton, first saying ALL naval units may retreat together to the same sea zone, then saying that attacking subs retreat by submerging.

    It’s still a kill joy!

It worked out in my favor this time, but I was counting on pulling those out of American Counter Strike range and found out I couldn’t. :(

Doesn’t matter, as I said, he ran away like a school girl being attacked by a cookie on tuesday behind the school in the playground!

  • Submarines shouldn’t survive a round of combat to retreat.

    @Nukchebi0:

Submarines shouldn’t survive a round of combat to retreat.

Sure, if you choose to loose a destroyer and a carrier instead of 2 submarines…but I didn’t cause I couldn’t retreat to Sea Zone 3 and thus get out of range of the Americans and Russians leaving me open to slaughter the British in Sea Zone 6, with fighter escorts of course.

  • I didn’t see the board.

I was just thinking that 85% of submarine kills are by airplanes, so the sub really shouldn’t live.
