US National Objective

A strategy to get right in Japan’s face is to build an industry and naval base in Alaska. A strong fleet positioned in SZ1 is an immediate threat to SZ6 and can receive reinforcements directly. To create a highway to be able to help ANZAC and get to the DEI quickly, build a naval base in Johnston Island. Establish Allied control of Dutch New Guinea and build a naval base there. This extends the highway to India and allows (potentially unopposed) amphibious landings in China. It should also tie up Japan in the DEI and make it commit units to defend the Philippines. If Japan can’t commit enough units against China or India the latter will start winning on that front in which case Japanese defeat is inevitable.

Assuming the Japanese don’t attack J1, One strat I tried was for the US to Move the Fleet to Wake, and I built a naval base there on US 1. If Guam is open on US1, move the fighter and troops there too. Now your forces at Wake are in range to counter attack or reinforce Guam, and the Aussies can fly up all four fighters on ANZAC 2 (actually, 1 can move up on ANZAC 1).

Guam is a key location for the Allies, specifcally the US, to attack Asia & lots of targets from.

Why didn’t WotC print each nations’ original IC’s, airbases, & naval bases on the gameboard similar to the original A&A Pacific. It would save space and you wouldn’t have the risk of accidently knocking the cardboard chits everywhere.

There will be another setup in the global 1940 game.

If you destroy 12 IPCs as Japan the US is down to 38 or so. If Japan keeps up with the US Navy builds it seems like that would keep the Japanese on a pretty even playing field with the US.

Im not a huge fan of it being 6 IPC rather than just 5

China shouldnt get special treatment……even though they are treated in a special way

I use the US fleet to build up in Hawaii (and position two DD’s in front of HAW seazone to prevent an all out attack) or Alaska.  Then Japan needs the larger part of its fleet to defend Carolines and other islands. By this time ANZAC has build enough subs to disrupt all southern islands.
