  • Just to remember some rule differences from revised:

    • Transports have not combat value and have to be chosen last as casualties
    • Submarine’s decision to submerge takes place before any dice are rolled (even before the first round of combat).

    Thanks for the tips. I believe the other big one is that enemy subs and transports don’t block naval movement like they do in revised.

    Looks like you had an interesting first turn with the ground battles not going so well but the naval battles going really well. I guess that’s life with dice :)

    Was it me who insisted on playing full dice?  :wink:
    Yes indeed, it was a 95% winning chance for Germany in the Baltic States.
    But the result of the first (and only) round of combat was zero hits for Germany and two hits for Russia.

    But you will never see me complaining about the dice!

    An interesting turn. Germany was feeling a little lucky but I think the British navy should be ok. Is it pretty standard for Japan to attack New Guinea and leave the transport exposed? I believe it was to get the Japan objective but I’m just curious.


  • As the purpose of our games is to give you ideas for improving the AI I’m absolultely fine on commenting on ideas and strategies while playing.  But my last games of AA50 were about five years ago, so I need to see the map to be sure not to mix territories and seazones up when explaining. So I will comment on this later when I am back home.  :-)

    Actually, I don’t remember exactly what was standard years ago when AA50 was the game to play.
    But as you know in AA a decision to do something quite often corresponds to the decision to leave something out.
    In my Jap1, I decided to leave out the Philippines in order to take Burma and put a lot of pressure on India on Jap2.
    So you are right, in order to get the NO bonus, New Guinea had to be taken. The transport is -7 and the gain is 5+1.
    With the rest of -1 I paid for the 2/3 chance to eliminate the now exposed British Destroyer wihtout further loss, as the
    British destroyer can not be supported by US ships.

    The British destroyer sometimes joins with the US navy - in that case it could have a long and painful life…


  • I should add some thoughts on the Philippines.
    As you see the decision to leave out the Philippines on Jap 1 is also a decision to give the US their Philippine-NO on US1.
    The benefit it a lot of options for Japan; either go for India in J2, to Australia in J2, Philippines is an easy catch in J2
    and of course China in J2.

    What will happen in J2 is of course dependend on the Allies’ reactions.

    Taking the Philippines in J1 is not a 100% chance, and limits the possibilities for Japan in J2.

    So that is why I did what I did. I may be wrong on details of course. Just tell me if you see aspects differently.
    I’m always open to new ideas … and - even after years - still learning.  :-)
