Biggest and Baddest AA Tourney?

  • Hey guys, new member here. I play ALOT of axis on GTO. Was wondering if there is any serious AA tourneys (2v2 format or 1v1) that has prizes and high degree of acknowledgement in the community? Looking to get into the competitive “circuit” if there is such a thing. Thxs for your help! :)

    Hi Stroid,

The main competition on these A&A forums is the Global league.  Here at these forums the league competition was mainly Revised until 2009, then AA50 till like 2012, and Global since then.  If you love Axis and Allies I encourage you to download TripleA and/or buy Global and check it out.

The A&A community is a bit disjointed in that different groups/communities play different games.  I imagine GTO is mainly Revised and 1942.1 (the 2008 version, not the current 1942.2 version).  If you want to play other versions, I reccommend downloading the TripleA freeware.

I started out playing on GTO but I learned to play other formats (eg TripleA and Battlemap) because I wanted to play AA50.

    For f2f tournaments, see

If you are willing to learn Battlemap (the old school map program that we used here until recently) then there are other clubs who hold tournaments you can participate in.

    See

    AAMC

    IAAPA

And AAWC, which uses the “3rd edition” ruleset from back in the 90s, before Revised.

These are all great clubs with expert players, but imho the most cutting-edge A&A competition is on these forums.  To participate, you no longer need to learn how to use Battlemap–you just need to use TripleA, which is easy to learn and much better software than GTO.

  • Great reply many thxs! I mostly play Revised on GTO and yes their version of 42 is the old one. Havent really played global. Way too big and confusing. Seems like a totally new game. Im so used to the size and length of more traditional AA games Im not sure I will ever be able to appreciate global.

I have played on TripleA but find the software clumsy and the players there are HORRIBLE. Will look into how the ladder league works on this site though. Maybe you only get good games if you have a pre-arranged game on tripleA with someone you know.

    Ok thxs for the help!

I dunno about the overall level of Revised players on the lobby but most likely you can still find great competition via the TripleA ladder competition.  Back in the day the top 10 on the TripleA ladder were just as good as the Top 10 on GTO when it came to ll/nt gameplay.

That said, that ladder is likely not terribly active since people on the TripleA lobby just don’t play Revised much anymore.  GTO is the spot for competitive Revised just like AAWC is the spot for competitive Classic play.  I’d encourage you to check out AA50 (WW2v3), Global, NWO, as well as the new 41 and 42 versions available using TripleA.

AA50 is roundly praised as just as good or better than Revised (and we would know because aa50 was the game of choice until Global came out).  While I haven’t played as many games of Global as aa50 or Revised, I’m inclined to make the same claims for Global as my fav A&A atm.

Imho, once you get used to TripleA it’s superior to the GTO software on every count.

The greatest tournament ever held at A&A.org was the Tournament of Xtra Death and PAIN. :)

But that has since concluded… and I am not sure if/when there will be another.
