What if The Russians began the game with one Russian winter token (kind of like a kamikaze token)? This token would be played once at the beginning of any game round the Russian player chooses, and would freeze movement of all units on any originally owned Russian territory for that entire game round. Any Industrial Complexes owned by Russia or otherwise are operational and would continue to produce units, however, airbases and naval bases would not be operational for the entire game round.

    Thoughts?

  • The game should have had a special rules last page that included stuff like this for every country
Its unfair that Japan is the only power with a special rule.

    USA - Liberty Ships
All US Transports cost 5 IPCs.

    UK - Colonial Troops
UK can place one infantry on original territory during its place units phase

    Russia - Russian Winter
Russia can declare a harsh winter at the end of one of its turns. Until its next turn, Axis units in original soviet territory or attacking into original soviet territory attack at -1

ANZAC - For King and Country
ANZAC can place one unit at any UK factory during it’s purchase units phase

    China - Peasant Army
At the end of the Chinese turn you may remove an axis control marker from an original Chinese territory if it contains no axis units.

    France - Troop Bonus
When Paris is liberated place 15 IPCs of French units in Paris.

    Japan - Kamikazes

    Italy - Mountainous Terrain
Amphibious invasions may not be launched against Southern Italy or Northern Italy if the Allies do not control Sicily.

    Germany - U boat Interdiction
German subs may roll a die before combat and may submerge even if destroyers are present on a roll of 1-3

  • This is in our game.

    Turn 1  Fall/Winter  39-40
    Turn 2  Spring/Summer  40
    Turn 3  Fall  40                        Rasputitsa
    Turn 4  Winter  40-41            Winter
    Turn 5  Spring  41
    Turn 6  Summer  41                Monsoon
    Turn 7  Fall  41                        Rasputitsa
    Turn 8  Winter  41-42            Winter
    Turn 9  Spring  42
    Turn 10 Summer  42                Monsoon
    Turn 11 Fall  42                        Rasputitsa
    Turn 12 Winter  42-43            Winter
    Turn 13 Spring  43
    Turn 14 Summer  43                Monsoon
    Turn 15 Fall  43                        Rasputitsa
    Turn 16 Winter  43-44            Winter
Turn 17 Spring  44          Nothing after turn 16

Winter: You can declare 2 winters during the game, but it has to match the winter season on above chart. The Russian winter is effective only on USSR territories. As a defender, USSR infrantry and artillery defend at 3 or less in first round of combat. As attacker, USSR infrantry attack at 2 or less.

Rasputitsa: During the fall using above chart, the USSR player can declare it rasputitsa during the non combat move phase of your enemy and roll 1 dice. If you get a 3 or less, your enemy won’t be able to make any ground non combat moves. Only effective on USSR territories.

Monsoon: During the summer using above chart you roll1 dice and if you get 3 or less, you cannot move ground troops in Yunnan,Burma, India, and Indochina.

Hitler should of just attacked in the spring. LOL

  • Revised had a nice set of national advantages for each nation.
Russian winter was one of them. (I believe all Russian infantry defended on a 3 for an entire round)

I always loved playing with these NAs.

Your idea of a Russian Winter (freezing units), would go very well with the 4player variant i proposed in G40e.
While no Allied units may enter any original soviet territory, this would give the Russian player an extra turn to stay alive. And along with lend lease may just balance it out…

    Thanks YG

  • Revised NA were awesome. I’ve always liked the idea of porting them into G40. Some changes would have to be made for them but they made it so each nation were there very own in a special way.

  • I had tried converting them for G40 a while back, it was a little sloppy.
Especially because there are 6 allied powers and only 3 axis powers.

So you have to make up 6 for italy, then make up some for China, France and ANZAC (or not)

But a neat fix for the balance was to make the French ones national DISADVATAGES to help Germany and Italy. Like

    “Manpower shortage”
Roll a die before the first German Turn, remove that many French Infantry, removing no more than one infantry from any territory in this way.

  • Nice calendar SS…

    :-D

  • Fricken sssswwwweeeeeettttt!  Nice to hear from you once in a while.

  • Oh yeah…I’m realy busy.
Lot of works at my office. My house is for sale. I bought another one and since last summer, I start to play guitar after a break of 15 years.

How about I had to go back and look at the PDF manual for Revised; I never realized these were part of the game! Man, was I missing out!

It’s a pretty expensive game now but once in a while you can find it cheap. You really only need the board and the manual. Most of the paper stuff you can find here on various threads.

I liked the game itself but hated a lot of the components in that game. It has a really cheap feel but the game is fun. The board some people didn’t care for but I actually like the art quite a bit.

Good game especially if you use the new components from the newer editions.

Perhaps someone can scan the board, enlarge it, and offer the file in the customizations forum.

Revised came with paper money, aircraft range markers and marshaling cards…
Think the only game since to come with extras like that was 50th.

Yeah that stuff was nice. I just didn’t care for the quality of the sculpts very much. The roundels were really thin and flimsy. All-in-all it’s a great game. AA50 has really nice “extras” too.

As for paper money I have some stacks never even opened. I started using poker chips long ago. I bought some really nice ones at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago and have a ton of cheapy plastic ones. The Wal-Mart ones were cheap but casino styled, about $15.00. Pretty nice for the price.

    Oh, I had it. :-D

It was really the first one I owned; had played classic with friends but never bought it. Have to say I disagree with you on the components thing; loved the unique sculpts, marshalling cards, aircraft movement markers, etc. Still use the paper IPC’s in the games I run now.

Just never played with the NA’s, which was surprising to me.

The design was fine on the sculpts that’s what I did like. It was the quality of the molding. I still have my AAR and when I compare the quality of AAP01 and AAE99 I noticed a big difference.

I wish I would have got the edition with the green British units though. The AAP01 red Japanese units are really nice too.

Are the first Europe and Pacific games worth going back and getting? I admittedly got out of the hobby until fairly recently, so I have the Global 40 SE games (and 1914), but I wasn’t sure if there were any of the editions between Revised and G40 that are must haves. They largely just looked iterative of Revised until G40 came out.
