  • You have the option to scramble now, into two SZs.

You can scramble one Ft from Scotland to defend at 4 vs my attack.
You can scramble up to 3 0f 3 Fts from the UK into SZ110.

You could win the SZ110 battle with all 3 Fts in, but remember you cannot retreat the Fts. If they die, they cannot be used for a counterattack in your turn.
    That is the dilemma!

Most UK players will want to use the Bomber(cannot scramble) in a preemptive strike on the Italian fleet in SZ97. This attack shpuld kill the Italian Battleship and prevent the two halves of the strong Italian fleet from uniting and becoming too strong.
I do not scramble because I also use the two UK Fts to attack SZ97 with the Bomber. They can land on the Egyptian Carrier if it goes into the Adriatic.

Other people prefer to attack Tobruk instead of the Italian fleet. The Fts in England cannot reach that battle, so ypu could scramble if that were ypur choice.

    Please pm any questions
Or we could do both with and without scramble, so you can see the difference.
I have no probs with that.

  • I meant to say that I think Italy is the key to Axis victory. It can become a 30-50 IPC monster if not kept under control by the UK.
Its National Objectives(NOs) are very generous, whereas the Uk has one and I should like to think you will only collect it once or twice.
The UK needs to still control all its original territories> They usually lose Alexandria or Gibraltar.
Gibraltar is very important in 1940. You can only enter and exit the Western Med if you control it. Subs can always enter regardless of which side owns it.

If you load up the game, look at Yugoslavia. I have sent to Air units there. They have enough movement left to land in rome.
They will be able to Scramble into both SZ96 and 97.
Most people will do this defensive measure.
If you attack SZ97, I will always scramble to cause as much damage to your UK ships as I can .
Then on Italy’s go, I have one Italian Ft and the Bomber plus SZ95’s fleet to polish off the remainder of UK’s Navy.

UK could retreat from the Med, some do that, but then you are gifting the Italians the Med sea NO, worth 5 IPCs.
They might also then have a united fleet, stronger than your UK one.

    US is neutral until attacked.
There is  no reason for me to attack it, so you will be spending your 32 income building a fleet until you can move on T4.

Be wary of a Sealion in this AA version. It is very possible. Another reason not to scramble on T1!

Thanks for setting this up!  I will find some time later this week to digest the Europe a bit so please do not mind for my slow move : -)…

  • Of course.
I will be happy to start and play two or three turns and if you think you are losing (or I tell you you are!), we can restart.
    Enjoy your evening.
