• So is Africa relevant in this game?

Or is the issue decided by turn 2?

    7th & 8th post for Jensen’s answer.

  • It’s largely irrelevant.  Sub-Sahara Africa doesn’t take up that much space on the map.  Ottomans can threaten Africa, Germany has little hope to retain its colonies, but Allies don’t have that many troops there to take them away.  Do the Allies really want to make the effort to steal Germany’s colonies that are worth a combined 4 IPCs?

  • Customizer

The few units in Africa spend the first two turns avoiding each other and marching into empty tts.
Then a few more allies arrive from the north to clear out the Germans.

    ASKARIS!

If the Central Powers can not build any units in Africa…  in the language of the period…  it is a “Side Show”

So how about making us some Askaris?

Some British Indians would’t hurt either.

It is a side show as long as the CPs cannot reinforce it.  If somehow they pursue a bit a naval strategy in the Med, perhaps Austria and/or Ottoman can make landings in North Africa?

  • Africa means UK can’t ignore Ottomans breaking through in Egypt.
But if they do break through it will take a few turns to conquer the continent.

  • I feel that the Ottomans can do some sort of push on other side.
I don’t think they are going to go far down Africa or even all the way down to India because it is a waste of time for the time constraint the ‘allies’(centrals) have. The Ottomans I can see just Holding Africa and going for a hard hit for Russia so Austria Hungary and Germany have less to worry about on there front depending on the oTtoman effort.

Africa- side show unless Germany can make some units.

True enough- no fast land units in WW1

  • Getting to india would shut down a whole economy on your east side.
Uphill battle, but a lot of reward.

Well at any rate going for India would force Britain to build more there than in the home isles, less British troops in France.  Maybe a strategy of Germany/Austria taking Russia 1st with the Ottomans putting as much pressure on Cairo/India as possible?  May allow Germany to ‘hold the line’ in France while they deal with Russia.

  • Customizer

Turkey does not have enough time for adventures in Africa, nor units to push through to India.

Its main effort will, I think, always be to fight the southern sector of the Eastern front. Activate Bulgaria, reinforce, move through to Romania, threaten Sevastopol. In the south it will be hanging on against the UK, nothing more.
