Just wondering if anyone else has checked this one out:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/25245/wwii-the-struggle-for-europe-and-asia

And here's their own site:

http://www.ww2wargame.com/game_design.html

Looks kinda cool...   shocked I like the way they designed it so that the miniatures of your choice are mounted on the chits...   HBG is mentioned, so I imagine this game is already known to some folks here.  Anyone give me the 'lowdown' on it? In other words, anyone out there play the first edition or perhaps had a part in the play testing of the second edition?

Ya 2 maps. 4' x 6' Europe and 4' x 6' map for Asia. So maps together make it a 4' x 12' Global map. Might get Europe just to see what they have for rules to implament into my game. Looks like you have to print your own counters and buy pieces. I like the ships at skytex where you can buy in packs.

I'm fond of large maps, but I'm unhappy with the shape of Africa in this one -- it's so stretched horizontally and compressed vertically that it was only by checking for the presence of Europe to the north of it that I was able to identify it as Africa.  A&A maps involve size/shape distortion too, but not to this degree.

Coach is in contact with the game's owner's. He's worked a deal with them so he can carry the games on his site. If you buy from the site listed above, you have to email them to order. From Coach you can get electronic only files or have it printed on the vinyl. Here's the link for HBG:

I guess that's the beauty of this game. You can get whatever minis you want. A&A, HBG, FMG, GHQ, etc, etc. How much you want to spend and how detailed you want to get will likely be the limiting factors. HBG carries or will carry just about everything you need. There is also a link on the product page that is a suggested shopping list.

Hey - we are playing the Struggle for Europe and Asia at the Origins Game Convention in Columbus, Ohio 1-3 of May if you are in the Midwest.

The game does not come with pieces - you need to use your own or buy them separately from HBG, FMG or one of the other miniature sites.

A couple of pictures from a game we played last weekend - one from the beginning of the game (Autumn 1939 turn) in France and one from the Summer 1940 turn in North Africa.

the game comes with all of the counter/bases in files for you to print out.  A good method is to print them out on glossy label paper (they are sized to be printed out on 8.5x11 inch solid sheets).  Print out on an inkjet printer and then stick the whole sheet on white styrene plastic sheets. Then score the individual counters using a round razor wheel that is attached to a plastic guide (available at most stationary stores) to create your counters.

Our group also mounted the planes on small metal wire pegs so the planes stand up off of the counters by a quarter of an inch or so - you can get  sense of what you can do with that in the pic below:

I believe Imperious Leader has this game and may have even showcased one or two years ago at a convention.  Maybe he can give us some info on it.  I looked at the game's own forum and IL was talking about getting it and showcasing it.

IL?
