Might think about using the Battlemap utility as well. TripleA is better for a faster pace of game but some like to use the forums, dice roller and the map utility Battlemap. Good luck on your first PBEM game. You might want to search the forums here for strategies. I learned a tonne when I first came here by reading what others do. Heck, you can even review some of the games played here, download the maps and follow the game in great detail. I will admit to doing that also!
