Denmark controls the North - nothing can pass through it without owning it at the beginning of your turn. I just learned this in one of my recent games against Steve.

Right - the only straits/canal that subs can move through without owning both sides is Gibraltar. I learned it the hard way vs. Steve... but eventually forced my way out and built an airbase in Denmark...
