My husband and I are trying to decide which AA game to buy.... one of our biggest questions is concerning the number of players for each game.  What number of players is most fun for each game?  He and I will mostly be playing by ourselves, so we are looking for which one will be most fun for just the two of us, but we would like to still have a fun game if we were able to get others to play it with us.  What do all you experienced and skilled players think?  Thanks so much.

For 2 people I'd say Axis & Allies Pacific. The other games are more fun with multiple players, IMHO.

Definitely, for 2 it's Pacific, then Europe, then Classic. If you have a chance of getting others, though, get Europe or Classic.

Pacific is best for 2 people.  Plus you can add a third if the time comes.  I love classic, but thats best with 4 or 5 people.
