Alpha3 is the 4th incarnation for 1940 global.  At this point I can't even tell you what Alpha1 was.  Alpha3 came out almost exactly 1 year after Europe 1940 was released....  It can be played, but if skill is equal, the Allies will win at least 60% of them I believe.
