Hi all,
I came up with an idea for a 3D version of an Air Base.  I hate those cardboard markers.  Over the past year I have been slowly customizing my edition of Global.   I have painted pieces, magnetic carriers, and other cool stuff that makes my game unique.  I was wondering what everyone thought of my Air base piece.  I took a city piece from Risk and cut away one of the towers and then to show a little love for the game that started this obsession I used a fighter from the original version and glued it on top.  I then painted it white.  Just looking for some feedback, likes , dislikes, improvements that sort of thing.  Also if anyone has an idea for a naval base please let me know.  Thanks everyone and keep on conquering the world one IPC at a time!

Personally I like it.  The only problem I can see is that some of the territories that air bases are placed on are so small that it can be nice to have the flat cardboard marker instead so other units can just sit on top of them.

Another way to achieve something similar, but without having to destroy those Risk pieces, would be to use small flight stands like this:

I agree.  But we kept running into the problem of people not seeing where air bases were because of units stacked there.  I play with a bunch of guys who have the attention span of a dog!

For naval and air bases I use old (1976?) Avalon Hill Diplomacy pieces.
You can find them used online, sometimes in decent numbers.

For the naval base I use the anchor (Diplomacy navy), stood upright.
For the air base I use the star (Diplomacy army), stood upright.

I'll get around to painting them all eventually, but in the meantime, they work nicely.
