• i’ve noticed that all the countries have to fight on 2 fronts but which is more impotant?

Russia - holding Germany near moscow or the IPC’s from Japan.

USA - focusing on Pacific or helping britain or Russia

Britain- holding africa, india or australia

Japan - gaining land to the west or defeating US fleet to the east.

Germany - Taking or holding africa or pushing into Russia?

  • Japan needs to focus on the Asian mainland for two important reasons. To get a higher income and to reduce the russians income.
At some point you may want to put a small number of troops into africa. One of the neverending debates in my playing group is what the japanese should do about the US fleet I usually attack it but I am not really sure if that is the best move.

Germany must fight in africa to get much needed income, the intresting thing is how much troops you can afford/are able to ship to africa. You want to protect your transport in the med if you can.

Russia must use the majority of its resources on Germany or the germans will stand a good chance of winning.

One of the intresting points in this game is how to delay Japan.

    Just some quick thoughts.

  • As the Allies, you will have to maintain a balance of power against your Axis enemies. You’ll have to shift your combined production power around the map to gain time. Once the Allies win the time game, they’ll win the war.
I try to break it down this way: The Russian’s put the majority of their initial production against the Germans until US/UK help can arrive. They then shift against the Japanese over time. Higher US production can win the war of attrition against the Germans. The majority of British attention should go to liberating Africa and using it to harrass Japan from concentrating on Moscow. Japan will make many gains in Asia until combined Russian/UK production can overtake them. Pacific islands and Australia are reasonable loses for the Allies. Once the Axis are contained, it’s just a matter of time for Allied victory…

  • 2 fronts war ? What is a front ! well (IMHO)its an army build up and/or progress the other side can’t ignore, but have to counter!

well in some way , we could look at it as an 1 front war. The Eastern front between rusia and germany. It is there from the start.
And error there and the game would often be lost.

all important descission made by japaness, english, and americans of where to go to war does adress this main topic of how to help on the eastern front.

I might sound arrogant , but in many cases a loss of a game could be adressed back to either side not paying attention enough to that.

japanese can take most of asia and fail anyway, because if not forcing russia to fight (and the keyword is fight) a two front war, then germany falls to early.

And if rusia doesn’t recive help or reliefe it falls. English/american can take africa, and keep a hold in asia and loose horrible anyway.

So the game could be described as a race to create a two front war, on either germany or rusia. Thosse to come first to win!

And the importance of a lot of other main strategy can be understand from the light of that.

The allied in asia , have the main purpose to delay the japanese. India and sienkang factorys. Not winning asia but forcing the japanese to waist time.

The japanese fleet sailing to the atlantic have the main purpose of delaying the allies helping rusia. And if succeeding germany wins the game

the battles of africa? even though africa serves as an income, it can also provides an allied backdoor to asia. But in it self it does not qualify as an front, because both sides can and will ignore it at stages in the game.

this is also why pacific build up wars doesn’t works! why? because at any stages in the game, it takes time to make that presure count (4+ rounds and easy to prolong by buing defense fighter/subs or even better inf). That time and IPC would be used to a bigger effect on tipping the balance on the other fronts.

    with regards

  • I think any country needs to split there resources in a very precise manner. Things like distance from enemy, enemy strength, enemy production capabilitys, and your own defenses all need to be taken into account. This way you can make wise (hopefully) purchases and educated movements.

  • Are you playing with a bid or not? Which ruleset?

Having said that…the Pacific is irrelevant to the US. Everything goes through the Atlantic to Finland to Karelia and onward.

India and Australia are irrelevant to the UK. Her priority is naval rebuilding, and taking back Africa, while ensuring Karelia does not fall.

Russia’s early focus is on containment of Germany. The first 2 turns should be all in Karelia. The Russkies Eastern forces should orderly withdraw to Novosibirsk. If alive, the US forces in Sinkiang should also withdraw. If the India forces are not required to take back Africa, then they should go through Sinkiang to Novo as well. Starting on Russia 3, you now need to consider if you need to build a few more guys for the Asia front. The combined objective of the Allies is…initial containment of Germany at the EE/Kar line. Orderly withdrawl and salvage of troops in Asia. Creation of the Novo defensive line. You will want to ensure that you have modest but sufficient Russian resources to keep the Japs at bay in turns 3-6. Holding Novo as long as you can is critical. By that time, the pipeline through Finland should be well established and you will be funnelling excess troops from the UK and/or US through Karelia to help fight off the Japanese. UK fighter in Karelia can serve double purpose…they deter the German attack…and then can be moved to Novo on the UK turn to deter the Jap attack. The reverse for Russian fighters. Learn how to use the UK airforce to your best advantage. Get the US bomber to Russia immediately. You will likely get 2 attacks with 1 Inf & 1 Bomber against a lone Jap in Yakut for instance, provided you retreat the Sinkiang guys on US 1. This is an effective way to get back a few points for the Russkies without exposing Russian troops. Similarly, the two UK India guys combined with 3 Ftrs and a Bomber is a nice one time smack on 4-5 Jap infantry that advance to Yakut or Sinkiang, again provided the India guys go Sinkiang on UK1 and Novo on UK2.
