• With the alpha+ rules can the Japanese build a major industry in Shanghai? Its original owner is China despite Japan’s rule from the beginning of the game.

  • Official Q&A

    No, they can’t.

Nope, as china is the original owner (china’s roundel).

Technically, Japan should have to place control markers at setup in those territories.

  • Aren’t the Chinese territories controlled by Japan outlined in orange, eliminating the need for control markers?

If China retakes them, what do you do? There will only be 4 control markers available.

Yes, and any rational person should be able to make that connection.  The problem is that the chinese rules get so many questions regarding “original control” mainly because of china and the dang chinese roundel/orange territory.

When you specifically have control markers to designate control, and “original controller” is intrinsically linked to the use of the control marker, the map should not have had these territories as orange and japan should setup with control makers placed in those territories covering the chinese symbol (similar to setups in AA50 1942 where setup places control markers as well).  China don’t even need control markers for kwangsi, kiangsi, kiangsu, shantung, jehol or manchuria, as they’re already implied, which is why japan should have to cover the chinese roundel from the outset.  Tragically, there are not enough japanese roundels to do this (later in the game).

  • We usually figure Japan owns them unless otherwise stated so when the Brits recapture them for the Chinese we place a Chinese marker on them.

At the least it is one of China’s few chances to snap a marker down!

What’s even more tragic (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) is that I have 10 differe A&A’s so a lack of control markers for the big 5 is never an issue. A lack of ANZAC markers on the other hand…
