Hi everyone.

I'm confused with regards to this Alpha setup everyone is talking about.

Is there an Alpha setup for global or just one for PAC40?

Could you point it out if so please?

Thanks a lot.

The Alpha setup can be found here.  It is intended for use in both games.  At this point, it is still being playtested, however it seems to be balanced for Pacific.  For global, Japan seems to be underpowered, and we're looking at ways to fix that.  The leading contender is a trade NO that gives Japan 10 IPCs per turn that it's not at war with France, UK/ANZAC and/or US.

Ten ipc a round for 3 rounds will still slow the Japanese down in asia overall.  The sam fix for Pacific and Global will be tricky.

NO's can apply to one game and not another, which is why they are preferred over setup changes

bad idea.

germany and italy will not have a declaration of war(dow) on usa until turn 4 as there is no incentive for them to do so. this leaves only japan to gain from a turn 1, 2, or 3 dow.
with alpha setup a j1 dow never happens. usually it is a j3 dow with the rare j2 or usa3 dow.
with this 8ipc(no walking into 2ipc french indo china) incentive it will always be a j3 or usa3 dow every game.

not only does this change reduce variability(one of the great ideas of this game is how different round dows give the game a different playout) it does nothing to address the usa spending all ipc in one theater this is the real culprit in the game being unbalanced.

You mention no incentive for a J1 or 2 attack comming from Germany or Italy. So why would Japan attack J1 or 2 anyway?

j1 gets you borneo easy.  also, you drop that BB before it gets soakers.   other than that it's sure not as appealing as in p40.
