• I just have to share this one with you guys.

Yesterday evening we played Europe and I was UK and France. The French home guard rolled terribly (in the first round of defensive die rolls I only hit one out of twelve!). But my French destroyer near Madagascar moved north to the Red Sea. After a few turns Italy was on a roll and captured Egypt and Jordan. The turn after that the Italians moved through the Suez and attacked my DD with 1 DD, 1CL, 1 TR with 1 inf and 1 art and a fighter. The land units were to invade Sudan. My DD killed each and every unit and survived! 44 Italian IPC on the bottom of the Red Sea.

A second wave of attacks moved 2 DD and a TAC to avenge their countrymen. I killed the 2 DD’s but was sunk by the TAC. That is by far the most useful action of the French so far and it really hurt the Italians. It halted their advance so that the Brits from South Africa could take Sudan a little easier (without the extra art and inf) and from there threaten Egypt. Because of that DD Italy was on the defensive instead of the attack.

We gave the captain and the crew a posthumus the Légion d’Honneur.

  • @Tavenier:

44 Italian IPC on the bottom of the Red Sea.

That sounds like the Italians alright.  :-P

But seriously, that’s one hell of a destroyer!

  • I’m not taking up my typical “vive le France” attitude here, but that just proves that dice can really be a mean bastard, or it can be a Godsend. All those people whining about Italy being broken forget one thing–-the dice. There is no right or wrong strategy, and sometimes, a destroyer can make all the difference, tricolor or not.  :-D

  • LOW LUCK SUCKS BIG HAIRY SMELLY MONKEY BALLS COVERED IN ROTTEN BANANAS!!!

Dice, however, are the epitomy of class and sophistication, giving the game a whimisical, light hearted element of chance, that can, when shared in a good nature, build a lifelong comraderie with your opponent.

  • What is a CL, might I ask? Cruiser?

Why did he not retreat the transport after the DD and CC died?

  • I think once you decalre an amphibious assault there is no turning back.

But if the sea battle is lost, the trans can retreat

  • Sure your being Italians, but these are French!!!

  • Again, what is a CL?

  • CL is Light Cruiser

CA is Heavy Cruiser or Cruiser

  • So…is it a cruiser in A&A terms?

I was thinking that as well.  Defenseless transports are automatically sunk, but as krieghund explained the other day, attacking transports are not defenseless as they can retreat.  The only time an attacking transport should be lost to a SINGLE defending unit is if the attacker declares an amphibious assault on Island that scrambles a plane with an UNESCORTED transport, as the attacker must endure one round of combat before they can retreat.

Nonetheless, that is one tough destroyer!

SHHHHH!!! Dont let people here you say that! There are some folks on here that dont believe in the dice gods, espically a ceritan comic book liker  :-D

Indeed the dice can be evil sometimes, odds in your favor or not. I think grouping the French DD with the UK DD from south Africa and the cruiser and tran from the eastern med is a safe bet, save them for a counter attack into Egypt around UK3

    Are you referring to me?

  • An attacker can retreat its transports if all other ships are sunk? I never knew that! It also seldom happens, usually you bring enough support to let the invasion take place.

In this case it would even save the transport, because the Suez can’t be crossed by the French DD.

Im sure there are plenty other people who like comic books, the world dosnt revolve around you ya know  :-P

  • Liaison TripleA '11 '10

The transport can only retreat back 1 space to a Sz it was just from, and can’t unload.

So…. it’s possible if his other naval units were not in range, or no protection was available, his DD came and sunk the full tran for free. :)

  • But that is better then having it destroyed on the attack. You do have to commit a unit to the task.

And in this case the Suez was Axis, so I couldn’t move the French DD to the med.
