• Hi everyone.  First post here, and a couple of questions.

We just started playing with the national advantages, and there’s a few things that have arisen right away.  We usually play the same countries, with myself playing Japan.

    1) With American bombers immune to anti aircraft fire, an American heavy bomber strat has worked every time to cripple Germany.  With america buying 2 bombers, 2 dice on A1, and at least 1 bomber and dice til they get it there after.
      2) With national advantages, does Britian’s extra starting IC act as any other starting IC?  Meaning can you build as many new units there as you want, or is it limited to the countries (usually India) IPC value?  So far we’ve played unlimited (as it isn’t stated otherwise) and Britian’s starting buy has been 6 tanks.

We’ve only played this a few times ( maybe 4 ) and as of yet the Allies have yet to lose.

Anyone have any suggestions to counter this as Japan?

Yup, that’s true.  This combination is pretty much unstoppable.

All ICs are limited in production, including starting ones.

Yes, play with the Larry Harris Tournament Rules rather than the rules that come with the game.  These rules were developed by Larry Harris (the game’s creator) along with a group of tournament judges and on-line play officials.  They fix several problems with the game, and are much more balanced.

If playing with NAs, you must use LHTR.  Otherwise, America will never use.  Plus, LHTR makes all of em better for gameplay for the most part.

    Some suggestions:

Don’t play with NA’s! The Allies total of 15 advantages, widely outshines the 10 advantages that the Axis have…

If you DO play with advantage, remove the Superfortress Advantage (which is silly!), and roll 2 random NAs per Allied Nation and 3 random NAs per Axis nation, for example.

Then, also make sure to use bids! (AFTER knowing the advantages of each nation, preferable…)

  • May I offer an alternative to the OOB or LHTR NA’s?

Enhanced Rules (http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=11203.msg281322#msg281322) has modified the NA’s so that they’re all fairly “even” (as much as possible).  You could pick and choose from this list if you’d like:

Or just make one slight adjustment instead of using a new rule set.

Replace one of the German National Advantages (one everyone agrees to before determining sides) with Improved AA Guns that hit on a two or less (hit on a 1 if Super Fortresses are the target).

That would have the smallest impact on the game, I believe.

  • Or give all 5 nations 2 NA’s each, but let the Axis have ONE random technology, and once selected the option to determine which nation (Japan or Germany) would receive that technology.

That would pretty much even out the NA issue.
