Hey,

Some time ago I came across "Don's Essays" They were very helpful with basic game concepts. I was wondering does any one know of a version of "published" strategies that would apply to the ideal first turn moves of the revised game?

I have a decent link to the best strategies as well. They are located here:

http://www.axisandalliess.org

Dons essays are only for Milton Bradley anyway

Secondly, he went crazy and the only reason why he was known was because he was one of the first to produce official strategies for any AA style game. This does not mean he was the best or only source.

He was the "coca- cola" brand of strategies. people trusted his wisdom because they didn't know any better at the time and the internet was young.

Other than here their are no relevant published ideas except perhaps from a guy named Suburo Sakai who is an expert on AAP

look at the front page of this site for additional essays

Dons essays worked well for classic, if you already didn't happen to know the fundamental game mechanics that he
described.

I kinda got the same impressions as Don, and surely many players had same experience with classic.
Funny thing though, we never thought about bids in classic. And we had to play
an awful lot of games until we figured out exactly how and why the game balance in classic was deeply flawed.
Not so with revised, I only played revised a few months and I probably will beat most players most of the time
as allies against someone who plays axis with no bid.
Imo strats are not neccesarily the most important factors to win games.
How good you play is also very important.

I remember that, didn't he post some crap about the world not deserving his strats, because warmongers were destroying the earth?  I think it was something like that.  Wasn't it when Bush got elected?  Maybe he had a PD forum that went against his politics?  I can't remember, I just remember thinking "This dude is cucoo for coco puffs!"

Did he?

or did he go SANE?

Dun dun dun!

Don put infantry push and Japan transport strategies up, and backed up his writing with numbers.  Good solid stuff by Don.  I recommend his stuff for critical thinkers.

As far as cuckoo for cocoa puffs goes - well, I'll believe it when I see it.  All I've heard is secondhand stuff.

I played Don Rae online (MSN Gaming Zone) back before he went "cuckoo" (allegedly) and I can tell you he was a VERY good player.  So he not only backed up his strategies with numbers -- the guy knew what he was doing.

That's very interesting about what may or may not have happened to Don I will have to dig around a little bit and see what I can find.

His stuff is all over the place, because he announced that he was deleating his board in a week or something like that.  So everyone started copying the strats and discussions.  I was lurking on his board at the time.  It was one of if not the first A&A boards out there so there was a lot of strat development there.  It's a shame that Don deleated it over issues completely unrelated to the game.
