Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Whats in the tech tree?
|

I had preorder the game and it will be arriving on the 27th oif this month, however, there is one question i have to ask. Is there a tech tree? AAP40 didn't have one, but it sounds like there is one in AAE40. If so, what are they?

I'm sorry, but another World War is coming. mainly due to the uselessness of nuclear warfare and Globalization. First off, nuclear warfare only works to end a war. Its not the useful first strike. The obvious thing is to knock out the nuclear weapons of the defenders and his allies with a preemptive strike, mainly of low-flying or even strategic bombers. To defeat farther inland missile silos/airbases, you uses a fast moving bunker busting missile, like the Tomahawk missile, to destroy them. SSBN submarines are only moderately effective due to them having to close the distance. Second, Globalization, while it is a neat idea of preventing a massive war by withdrawing on the economic support of a nation, only works if the nation doesn't decided to goes balls to the wall and goes full out on its enemy. For instance, if Russia decided it was ripe for a 3rd world War, who the heck is going to stop their economy? They are self-sustaining themselves. And for the finale, the only reason there hasn't been a 3rd world war is that fuel cost are so high. Once the World finds another massive oil well, like the Arctic oil fields, the Alaskan oil fields, and the Siberian oil fields, the cost of fuel will lower and more fuel will be ready to fuel the World's massive war machines.

Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact

I was thinking, in 1940, The Soviet union and Nazis Germany were technically neutral to each other. It gave the Russian half of Eastern Europe while Germany got the other half and Finland. So how would this be represented in game, would it be like the Japanese-Russian Non-aggression pact, where if Germany invades Russia, then Russia gains either a boost of manpower (extra infantry), or could it be like the US neutrality, where it gets a boost of IPC??? I wouldn't mind this, for it could allow Russia to -gasp- invade the Middle East for itself. The US,UK, France, and the other allied powers weren't' friendly with the USSR until it became apparent the Russia was getting steamrolled by the Germans. I think this could provide the ultimate answer for 'what if Hitler never ordered the invasion of the Soviet Union?'.

Well, if there is one thing i like to see, is a possible US atom bomb. Basically, if Japan has lost control of all the pacific island, and the us has an airbase on Iwo Jima and Okinawa, it can build an atomic bomb for 45 IPC. The roll a dice to see whether the bomb hits anything (a 4 or lower) and if it does, roll ten dice and destroy a unit for every dice that is a 3 or lower. If the bomber is shot down, the bomb doesn't activate and is assumed the bomb has been destroyed on impact.

Ok, so i just played my first game of the AAP40, and i lost as japan. What the Us could do it while Japan is trying to wreck havoc on the Chinese ground forces and the British army, move your entire fleet and air force to midway instead of Hawaii. It puts you closer to Japan, and Japan has to cease its ground campaign to win in the naval fight. sure it has more planes, but if the Us is smart, they can take Iwo Jima on their first or second turn.

The mech-infantry is useful if you have a lot of ground to cover, plus they can blitz with tank formations to give a cheap but realitvely fast unit to defend the tanks from an onslaught. It is good if the British build some in India, then quickly support Chinese forces against the Japanese. I played my first game against my brother today, and I got owned at the end due to my in-ability to take all of China early and destroy the US navy early. I suppose if i were Japan and i simply attacked China and leave the UK and US alone for three turns i could win the Pacific.

Well, once i get the game, i will make a house rule that Japan can not enter Soviet territory. i don't think that Japan would invade the Soviet Union for two reasons; One: Once AAE40 comes out, the Us and Britain will have more IPC, China should get more territory, and thus Japan would need to focus more on them instead of the SU, and two: The Us and Britain could focus their industries onto Japan, so Japan will be screwed if they go after the Soviet union and ignore them. And the Soviet union can't attack Japan until they defeat Germany.

Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Pacific 1940 / Re: Does J1 Attack "Break" the games?

Ok, if the J1 attack is to strong for the allies, learn to throw a dice. If you can master rolling a dice to get the number you want, you could easily make the J1 attack that of a suicide bomber. I know learning to throw a dice they way you want is harder than I make it sound, but if it works, the Japan will be reeling from their losses.

What is making the J1 attack so good? Do they have a OP fleet? or do they have the invincible air fleet? I think that it is possible for the Us and the Allies to win the pacific if both players a new to the board and its layout. When I got the revised edition of AA, my brother would always win as the axis. We switched roles and he would still win. But when i got the anniversity edition, I was able to have the Soviet union hold the German lines while the UK and America bang up the Western German front.
