My gaming group is down to 4 players and we would really like to add a 5th. We meet every friday and sometimes on saturday or sunday but we would be willing to work around any schedule. I have a HUGE gaming table that fits the AA global map very easily with lots of extra room. Anyone interested?

RE: What other editions do you play?
I would definately recommend Global 40 to anyone and thats the game I play. I played revised and it was a blast, never tried Anniversary and played spring 42. I swear, the global game makes me feel like an actual general going over the map. 4 of us play and you litterally have to stand up and since its 6 feet long you have to take 2 steps to get from pacific to europe. I also played original MB edition….fun for its time no question. Since there are only 2 of you I think Global would be the most fun as the downtime between turns is a bare minimum…lots to do and see for both of you. Spring 42…great game but the damn board is to crowded. I wouldnt let that stop me cause its still a great game. I personally like Revised better than Spring 42 because of the Russian Winter ect, ect. There is just so much more to the game though I feel the U.S. is so weak in that edition. If you have the time, space and money Global is the way to go. Wish I picked up Anniversary when I had a chance. I wasnt into AA then but I wanted to try it but at 100 bucks I thought it would be a stupid purchase. Not the best decision Ive made as I have seen it on Amazone for 800!!! Who the hell has 800 bucks for a boardgame!!! All the editons are very good and you will really enjoy but for my money its Global 40.

RE: A&A doesnt care
What marketing moron ever invented this disloyal & stupid business strategy?
The marketing moron’s that know in order to get any new fans they have to offer a reasonably priced game that someone will buy. If you had no experience at all with this game but was just out with the family/friends to purchase a new game to play would you buy the $100 anniversary edition of a war game? Probably not. Would you buy a $35 dollar version of a war game? Yeah, probably. And if you liked it enough you just might spend more money to buy some other versions too. Yeah, those marketing morons have no idea what they are doing, LOL
They are marketing morons. Actually I will just call them morons because there is absolutely no marketing what so ever. The only way you could possibly find out about Axis and Allies is if you walk into a hobby shop and see it or through web sites like this. In the right hands this game could be so much bigger than it is so you can stop rolling on the floor. And by the way, I know this isnt true for all areas but in my neck of the woods Axis and Allies Revised sold for 40 bucks, so that fictional family you talk about that buys this new piece of crap for 35 will soon find out how screwed they got if they end up likeing the game.

RE: AA42 has been revealed….. now what?
Quit whining. The 1942 ed is a beginners game. Anniversary ed is the cornerstone-game that we play, and next year we get Advanced A&A Pacific and Europe. All games with the same basic rules and combat system. This is great. Remember when we had MB Classic unchanged for 20 years ? Now we got new games every year.
But, there is a “but”. WOTC are bussiness-men. They do this for money. So we buy this beginners edition and get new refreshed pieces. Next year when the advanced Pacific and Europe games come, we might get new Italian pieces too, and maybe halftracks and divebombers or neutral infantry. So just buy this game and stop beeing so cheap.
What??? Anniversary ed is the cornerstone-game that we play?? Ive got some news for you, most of us “whiners” dont play that damn game because they released so few copies and in this world wide global recession cant afford to pay $200-$300 off e-bay!! Ok, so they release new games every year, so what. If the quality is going to go down this road why is that a good thing?? Also I seriousley doubt this new “simple” version is going to bring in 1 new player. Not one!! How would they know it is different and simple? Its not like WOTC is doing any advertising about it being the easiest AA to play. From what I see they didnt put “New easier to play” on the box. Someone is going to play this because they know someone else who plays.
WOTC are business men and do this for the money?? No shiiat!! But who the hell said business men who want to make money are always right? GM, Ford, ect ect……they all wanted to make money but their designs sucked so bad the higher ups made all their money and ran their companies into the ground. Believe me, if this game somhow sells your not stupid enough to believe your gonna get halftracks and divebombers or neutral infantry are you?? If im a business man and the crap I just released sold, why the hell would I spend more money on new molds and all that kinda thing. If they actually do what you think they will then I can say they truly are stupid!!! Bottom line, if this game sells dont expect to much of an upgrade, they want to see if they can cut costs to the bone and still sell. If it doesnt they will either not upgrade the game for a very long time or they will make another awesome game like AA50!!

RE: A&A 1942 review with pics at BGG
Please everyone do not buy this game. Its painfully obviouse they dont give a rats ass about putting out a good quality product so dont reward them for it. If its the last Axis and Allies game so be it but dont help them!!!

RE: A&A doesnt care
P.S.-I started this thread before any pics or information was released on the game. Now I understand why they didnt release any information about it……they knew it sucked and they didnt put any effort into it and Larry harris, you should hang your head for letting them do this to your creation.

RE: A&A doesnt care
Holy Crap!!! I almost cant believe what Im seeing!!! Are they seriouse releasing a game that sucks this bad??? This has got to be a joke!! I think even the big tobacco companys care more about their public perceptions than the A-holes that make Axis and Allies. Instead of me buying this game why doesnt an executive from Avalon Hill just come to my house and kick me in the balls!!! It would be the same damn thing!!! Please people, I beg of all of you not to buy this suckfest of a game.
I should be able to buy a game and have everything I need to play in the box!!! Pencils and paper?? Screw them, if they want me to buy their game they have to at least give us free pencils so we can keep track of our income in their insult of a game. Im firing off a letter to these crapstains and I advise all of you to do the same.

A&A doesnt care
I am so sick of these big companies. Larry Harris doesnt give a darn!! Hey, if I invented a game I would visit sites like these all the time to check on my gamers to see what they want. Its sad that I seem to visit this site more than Larry Harris himeself does (if he does at all). All people have been talking about is how they would love to see pics of the new game being released next month. Dont these companies give a crap??? We are their audience who is gonna buy their game for Christ sakes!!!
Not to mention they release a mega version that sells out and only produce 2000 copies of it, WTF!!! I could see if it didnt sell but damn, it was a big hit!!! Who the hell is in charge of those decisions, the same guy that ran AIG!!! You go on the Avalon Hill website……nothing!! You go on Larry harris’s page…nothing!! You google the darn game…nothing!!!
It seems they just collect their paychecks and release their games taking it for granted we will buy it, and of course we will but where is the customer service. They should be promoting this game as if they want us to buy it instead of acting like they are doing us a big favor by selling it to us. They are the lucky ones!!! We save them millions because they spend exactly zero dollars promoting it and it will still sell because of us hardcore fans. Even HUGE video games like Madden football which is a guaranteed million seller spends all kinds of money months in advance with commercials, big cardboard signs in gamestop, blockbuster, ect ect. THEY probably dont have to but they at least want people to know and build a buzz about it.
They didnt release information on how few AA50’s were produced but we all found out in a hurry when 5 months after release it was going for 300 on ebay!! No information if it will be re-released, just rumors (they could clear this up in 1 second if they bothered). No pics of the new game being release in about 2 weeks (unheard of).
Im sorry, but they just are not treating us right and I am getting sick of it. Im gonna bite the bullet and buy AA50 for $300 on e-bay :x :x but that is it. Im never buying another Axis and Allies again. I have enough awesome house rules to fix the stupid broken rules and enough pieces with AA50 and my other games to last a lifetime. They lost me forever with any new thing they may release. They can shove their new game up their behind.

RE: Lets Talk Atomic Bombs!
IL, your first map is from 1893, when moscow was a glorified fiefdom and not much of an industrial city. In the coming years it grew a great deal espeacaly since it was the new capital.
Your next map only shows a portion of modern moscow, you probably should have realised this after your estimates showed that one of the worlds major cities had not grown in over one hundred years.
Today, Moscow is accaully over 417 sqare milesEven if we were bombing 1893 Moscow, which is over 25 square miles, you would need more that two bombs to comepletely destroy the city, seeing as the bombs blast effects are in the shape of circles that dont conform to the borders of the city and that they would most likly miss their targets and have overkill where the blast radius’s of the bombs overlap.
I am sorry to say i do not have a source, but i remember reading that 1948 Moscow was 386 square miles.
And due to overlapping blast radius, circular areas of damage, missing targets, and innacruate maps of Russia during the soveit era, completely destorying moscow would take well over 31 bombs. If you are aruging that destorying the kremilin (which would take one bomb that hit its target) would have the effect of destroying commnication and political control which then should be simulated by all the factories being destroyed as well as the AA guns in the Russia territory , that a different argument …
But my math is correct.
Ok, I dont even want to get into what a bomb would do to Moscow right now, but why do you keep insisting they would miss Moscow? Hitler had bad maps and awful intelligence. The bombers in 1945 were so much more sophisticated compared to 1941. Even if you are correct about the size of Moscow you only make my point. There is no godam way they are going to miss a city the size of Moscow with the bombers of 1945, no dam way. Sure it is possible with one bomber maybe missing its target with cloud cover I guess, but the chances are so small. They would hit it no question.

RE: Lets Talk Atomic Bombs!
@Imperious:
since the A-bomb takes out 2 miles in all directions and moscow is 386 miles they would still have 378 miles of Moscow to fight the war.
what does this mean? Moscow is NOT 386 miles either wide or square in 1941-45. At most its 10-18 miles circle, so one bomb will take out at least half the city and kill about 85% with radiation within 4 months. Besides without Stalin who would most likely be in this city the Soviets would not last much longer w/o a political head because of the centralization of its politics. This is the case with Germany as well.
The whole point of the A bomb is to make something that can potentially end a game because AA needs to end because it can extend into too many hours of play.
I just took his word for how big Moscow was, I didnt look it up. I just thought it was kinda funny how he said it would take 31 A-bombs to take out Moscow. I totally agree with you. Your correct, the only way to have an A-bomb in the game realistically is it would have to be an end gamer. You cant allow someone to get it on turn 3 or something. It is a fun way to end a game though, dropping A-bombs on each other.
