I have a Euchre banquet to attend Friday so will be driving up from Niagara Saturday morning. Â I can bring a large Spring 42 Map 5'x3' roughly, but probably won't unless it rains and I have to take the truck rather than sports car.
Games I am bringing: Box set 1942 Box set AA 2nd edition Box set Samurai and Swords (Shogun?) Â pretty cool game, 2-5 players. Â Never managed to finish a game, takes 3-4 hours to play easy plus an hour to setup, cover rules. Â I haven't played in 5 years and only played it a few times. Box set Civilization Avolon Hill circa mid 80s. Â Used to play it in the mid 80s. Â Best with 5-7 players, takes 3-5 hours from what I recall Illuminiti original plus expansion 1+2. Â 2-8 players with 3-6 being best. Â Games can be 20 mins to a few hours.
I have yet to sign up for any games.  I only play Spring 42 well, but could be a semi-competent floater/ 2nd/3rd in a team playing a different flavour of AA. I'm always up for trying a new type of game as long as it is not rule heavy and I'm the only newbie!
You can almost definately count me in for a game of Samurai Swords! I had that when I was a kid (the Shogun version) and it mysteriously disappeared one day. Never saw it again until I played a few years ago with Jeremy and my brother. Nobody has really signed up for any games tbh. There is 1 full Global 1940 game set and possibly a 2nd one. But beyond that it's free for all. lol. There are a lot of great games available in the FMG Library as well that will be free for all to play. We will have a shelving unit full of games for everyone to try out if they want.

This sounds like it's going to be alot of fun! What time are you guys fixing to kick this thing off on Saturday? Im wondering if I should head up there Friday, or leave real early Saturday morning? to avoid the hassle I'll probably just head up Friday afternoon but what's the deal so I can figure what would work best?
Doors open at 9am both Saturday and Sunday.

So, decided to come at the last minute, is there a place near by I can crash? or atleast a safe parking lot where I can sleep in my car ? Well if you really do want to sleep in your car, the lot at the event is as safe as it gets. Places to crash would be the hotels at Hwy 401 and Stevenson road (about a 10 minute drive south of the event) unless someone can offer you a place at their home. Hotel info at http://iwillnevergrowup.com/forums in the events section (FMGC2012 FAQ's)

Oh dear Lord... I wish people would read the ENTIRE PDF... just once..
Yeah, sorry IL, but I DID read the entire PDF, more than once. Either they are contradicting themselves in the summary table at the end, or there are 160 combat units total with 32 per nation as it says first. Game Components • 160 plastic pieces (32 per nation) • 16 new combat unit sculpts • New map • Rulebook And later in the table at the end says "Game board, play components, rulebook, 370 game pieces" So again .. contradictory or 160 PLASTIC pieces (32 per nation) (not 160 NEW plastic pieces (because it clearly does not say "new" anywhere in that 160 pieces. If that's what they meant they should have said "160 NEW plastic pieces (32 per nation)")) with a total of 370 game pieces and then we can wonder what are the other 210 game pieces? Well since it specifies PLASTIC for the 160, you would have to assume the other 210 are not plastic pieces. Control tokens, AA/Factory tokens, etc? I understand where you are coming from IL, but again .. we won't know for sure until we know for sure, right? The PDF does say... Game Components 160 plastic pieces (32 per nation)   16 new combat unit sculpts New map Rulebook New Units: A key feature for enfranchised players is an entirely new set of unit sculpts. There are 16 all-new designs such as the P-40 Warhawk, Tiger Tank, AVRO Lancaster, FW-190, IS-2 tank, HMS Hood, He-111, and the Akagi Aircraft Carrier. These playing pieces can be used in any other A&A game, and will be desirable to players who seek to expand their A&A collections. But that is talking about what is NEW to the game as opposed to the standard stuff. It does not say it comes with a box or tokens for the nations, but obviously they are included. If you want to get stuck on semantics THEN assume the game has no box, no chips, no dice, no other tokens, no other pieces, no setup charts, etc..And add to that it uses the same mechanics as AA42 which means that is impossible without those components...you basically can't play the game without parts from other games? I don't think so. WOTC does not make games that require parts from other games. Each game stands on its own two feet, so obviously the 160 pieces listing refers to NEW SCULPTS AND NOT THE TOTAL GAME PIECES INCLUDED... The 32 pieces are NEW PIECES PER NATION THAT ARE NEW SCULPTS, IT DOES NOT MEAN ALL YOU GET IS 32 PIECES....that is ridiculous. Again the people at WOTC just don't have any skills at explaining the product. Item Contents SKU UPC ISBN Size Wt. I did not see the word "new" after 160 pieces total either
but in all honestly .. speculation is just that. Â we will know when it's released.
** Edit .. here, from the announcement (copy/pasted)
Game Components 160 plastic pieces (32 per nation) 16 new combat unit sculpts New map Rulebook
That does not say 160 new playing pieces .. it does say 16 NEW sculpts, but nothing about those totaling 160 pieces .. anywhere, either in the announcement or the pdf.

Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition / Re: AA50 Rules Errata
|

The battle is still going on since there is still a sub in play ; so my understanding of the rule is that if you keep your sub and decide to retreat, than the tranny survives.
The only possibility I see to kill the tranny and retreat the sub would be that you go for one more round, the opponent sub stay fighting, both sub miss while at least one air hits ; then you'd have sub versus sub only, and you could retreat.
Correct. Transports are not automatically killed. Technically you still have to do another round of combat in order to hit it (or multiple rounds until you DO hit it). If there was ONLY a transport left or you had no ships in the zone capable of hitting the enemy, then obviously you could forgo this technicality and presume that you would continue until it's dead (unless you were insane and wanted to leave it alive in that instance). interesting that you posted this Rorschach, because this is what i always thought, but krieg informed me this is not the case. it is not an issue of the transports taking a number of hits. if there were 10 transports and I attacked them with 9 planes, it is not an option for the attacker to say i attack one round killing 9 transports and then retreat leaving one alive. Yeah, I thought about this a bit more after posting my reply. lol. So mostly correct .. except that you CANNOT leave the defenseless transports alive and choose to retreat. The wording in the rules (and sometimes the way Kreig words it even) can get a little dicey at times. So in essence : Attack a sub, 3 surface warships and a transport with a sub and 5 planes. Score no hit with the sub and 3 with the planes Defender removes surface warships You no longer have any units that can attack each other Transport is killed Planes land in non-combat Or any combination of units that results in attacking units that cannot hit each other thus leaving the defending transport(s) undefended = dead transport(s).

That pic on the link you provided there IS the AA50 box. Â It was provided as a comparison to show that the box is "almost identical to" the Anniversary box .. not to show the new box. Â Pretty clear especially when the picture is labeled as the Anniversary edition. /headdesk There were other links provided that you did not put there. Â I saw 2 of the links myself. Â Both from the WotC retailer site .. you know, the kind of thing that does not get indexed in searches like google (yeah, wow, did you know that's possible?? Â to NOT be indexed on search engines? Â pretty wacky stuff there y'know). Conspiracy theorists make me chuckle, really. WotC put out a retailer PDF with it as upcoming. Â Prior to April even coming around. Â April fools joke? Â I know who the fool(s) is/are .. Now .. this is not to say I am convinced. I see no REASON for a 1941 version when Spring 1942 works perfectly well for a 1.5-2 hour "starter" game. But then again, WotC does a lot of weird things.

Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition / Re: How do you collect income for axis and allies?!?!
|
on: April 05, 2012, 04:40:40 pm

... A) 1 sub, 1 bomber, 1 fighter to the north atlantic UK BB & transport B) 3 fighters to the Med UK cruiser C) 1 bb, 1 transport (loaded) to the Med UK destroyer D) Amphibious assault from said transport, plus a fighter, a tank, and an infantry against Egypt. E) Attacks on whatever territories of Russia are important or weak, depending on what they did. ...
Each battle may be rolled in any order though strategic bombing missions and naval battles in seazones with an amphibious assault are always prior to any other attack on those affected territories. In this case, C is ALWAYS rolled before D.
Once all battles have been rolled and completed, you move onto Non Combat Move phase. You cannot have another round of combat after this, so you cannot for example (as germany again) have a battle in West Russia and then attack Moscow with those units that just had a battle in west russia - all combat moves are done, and then all battles are done. Effectively, all combat moves are simultaneous and then all battles are simultaneous.
Other than amphibious assaults, there should be no point where you stage battles (attack one territory in order to attack another territory).
yes but for an opening turn the transport cannot be loaded, there fore this couldn't happen. Sure it can. You can load a transport, move it, and unload all in the combat movement phase, even in the first turn. Germany does start with a transport in the med and a bomber (bb) capable of reaching the UK destroyer to take it out clearing the assault for that transport (which you load from france).

Now you're just looking for loopholes.
Well...Garg is good at that... I remember once he found a reason to build a NAVAL BASE on the mailand (not adjacent to any seazone...)       1. Can I see that? 2. How. The. f**k? LOL .. he found a "REASON" to, but, as per Kreig "No. See page 24 of the Rulebook."

Yeah, you COULD find that situation, but who would ever do it (who in their right mind that is)? There would never be a reasonable case for it.
I suppose if you're crazy enough to commit that kind of income to a worthless navy, sure .. but really?
** nvm this part .. i'm thinking of something else Unless, if memory serves me correctly, the black sea is a no-build zone (just as the sahara desert is impassable, the black sea is not a valid zone).
