106  Finding Players / Events / Re: FMGC 2012 - Gaming Convention - GTA CANADA on: March 10, 2012, 08:59:00 am
I'm staying at the grasshoppers inn.

Is that in Scarborough? looks like a 45 minute drive. I'm thinking of staying at one of the places at the end of the road. 2 clicks can be done in 20 minutes at a high speed wobble.

The 3 hotels listed in our FAQ are not even a 20 minute drive at city speed limits.  Maybe 10 minutes.

We need more info! Can we get pizza delivered directly to the Eastern Front? 15 hours is barely enough time to play Global we can't be leaving for food. (Come to think of it, my buddy Ray does take a long time to do his turns grin)

Absolutely.  There's a Pizza Pizza just down the street that would happily deliver I'm sure.

Institute a time limit on turns.  Tell Ray to make sure he's ready to go (purchases and moves mostly planned out) BEFORE his turn.  (that's what our group does .. works quite well for shortening turn time and keeping things moving).

Well I emailed him twice requesting information.  About the event, and some of his products that may be available.

AND I needed to talk strategy with him, about the game he's supposed to be my ally in!

But I haven't seen or heard from him :S

I'm going all out for this event dude, I'm hoping you guys are too?

Ahhh, ok.  I had lunch with him about 2 weeks ago .. he's currently in the process of getting his house ready to sell so I imagine he's overwhelmed at the moment.  I'll prod him to see if he's got your messages.  Wink

Im going to register this weekend and a list of good Hotels/Motels in the area would be nice, I want to make reservations for Friday and Saturday night.  I'll be standing  the door at 8:00 in the morning.

Likely the 3 best choices for hotels that are an easy 5-10 minute drive down the road from the hall (and near the highway for ease of finding the hotel)

1) Best Western Plus Durham Hotel and conference center
559 Bloor Street West, Oshawa, Ontario (905) 723-5271  book.bestwestern.com

2) Travelodge Oshawa Whitby
940 Champlain Avenue, Oshawa, ON L1J 7A6 (905) 436-9500  travelodge.com

3) Comfort Inn
605 Bloor Street West, Oshawa, Ontario (905) 434-5000  choicehotels.ca

As for standing at the doors at 8am .. that's pretty die-hard.  lol.  We won't even be there at that time (i doubt it anyway).  We're hoping to have everything set up the night before (unlike last year when there was a seniors dance the night before so we scrambled to set up the morning of!).

Anyone heard from FMG?  It's been more than awhile...

What do you need to know?  I can get ahold of Jeremy if needed.

I'll be there and bringing my global game as well as my other 3 blown up maps. can't wait! Hopefully both guys from my podcast will be there as well. As to the parking, would it be better to cab it both ways from the hotel there Saturday or would the car be safe there overnight? When does the place open up on Saturday? I'm 2 hours away and need to know if I should book a room for Friday & Saturday or just come up Saturday morning,

If I remember correctly it opened up between 9am and 10am on the Saturday morning.  If cost of a hotel room is an issue, I'd say just come in the morning on the Saturday and book one night.  Then you could either cab to/from the hotel or drive.  (and driving gives you the option to head out for a bite to eat during the day without paying for another cab.  There are a few places to eat a couple of blocks away but anything else is quite a loooooong walk).

There is a LOT of parking available and I'd say that your car should be safe overnight.
112  General / Axis & Allies Marketplace / Re: Deciding to sell my copy spring 41 on: February 23, 2012, 04:34:03 pm
Anniversary comes with a 1941 and 1942 setup, but it doesn't say SPRING on the box... so I'm wondering where you got that from?

Every copy I've ever seen says "SPRING 1941, The World is At War" at the top ..

In any case, yes, it seems $300, give or take a bit is the going rate for this fantastic version of the game these days.  VERY nice find!

Rorschach  (Only as a Game Marshal :S)

Baloney .. I'll be playing all weekend long!  I'll probably concentrate on miniatures and games i've never played before though.
114  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition / Re: Spring 1942 - AA Gun Movement Question on: February 22, 2012, 06:24:17 am
The only exception to that is Air units, which may not land in a territory that has been captured during that turns combat phase.

All land units that have the movement available to them in non-combat may move into any territory that is now considered Friendly (even if just captured that turn).

So, I have registered and I am participating in a 6 player Global 1940 game on Saturday. Do I bring my own copy of the game and set it up at an empty table Saturday morning, or will a copy of the game be provided for us?

Everyone is welcome to bring any games they have in their collection for their own use and/or others to try out.

As far as AAG40 and AA50 go, there will be one of each of those 2 set up already to go.
118  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Global 1940 / Re: Transports on: February 04, 2012, 05:49:02 pm
I had to read the question a few times to understand exactly what was being asked.  At first it read like you wanted to scramble fighters to defend your transports  from enemy defending air that was scrambled, during the combat phase.

NOW I understand it better;

You want to know if you can send airpower WITH your transports in the chance that they MAY be attacked by scrambled fighters?

If so, I say yes you can, as part of your combat move, send fighters into the sea zone as long as they can return to a safe landing zone after combat is concluded.
119  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition / Re: How to Capture an Open, Hostile Territory? on: February 03, 2012, 10:55:48 am
Hobbes: Remember as the attacker you not only delcare what your attacking, you also decide which attack happens when. Using you example you delcare that your attacking Egypt and blitzing  with the intent for the tanks to reinforce Egypt. You then decide which of the attacks first, I.e. do the tanks blitz first then aid in the attack on Egypt (which IMOO, would be the better plan in your example) or do you attack Egypt first and then blitz congo with the tanks winding up in  as the second move in the blitz.

Like I said unless your worried about losing the attack and thus too many troops to make holding the territory a bad idea, adding the tanks to to  could help prevent this as they attack on a 3 or less.

-Ish

ALL attacks are considered to occur simultaneously.  If you're moving tanks through the Congo and into Egypt, and attacking Egypt from another territory, those tanks are to be in the battle for Egypt as well.  You can't move them in AFTER you takeEgypt.
