1  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: Need HELP with J1 again, when UK/Russia is a pain. on: May 30, 2009, 04:01:31 am
You can't do all of that with the setup that I showed you AND have your fleets safe, which as you agree is the most important thing. How could you possible safely take out sz59 AND pearl AND protect your new trannies? With a few semi-bad roles, your fleet at pearl will be sunk on US1 OR your new trannies would be destroyed on UK2 OR your china infantry could be destroyed on R2.

I think your spread too thin and your open to some battles that could easily go very bad for you.

Remember, in sz59 there was the UK DD and AC and the UK fighter was at Bury. Lets also say your Japan sub was gone. Don't forget that your sz47 fleet is blocked from sz59 by a sz36 UK tranny and the UK bomber is in range.

Bury with the fighter is a risk that my Japan would never take. Even without the fighter, it could go bad unless I had another tranny.

So far I think my two best options are to:

1) Buy 1 IC 1 Fig and do pearl.
2) Skip pearl and buy trannies and take out all UK ships.

I think #2 is the best option. I'm starting to go back to my old belief that buying an AC on J1 is just stupid.

7. If there was an IC in India, would that change what you would do on J1? If so, how?
4  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Need HELP with J1 again, when UK/Russia is a pain. on: May 26, 2009, 02:55:18 am
Well I need help again with J1 Sad.

The situation looks something like the following:

6 Russian inf in bury
4 Russian inf in Sink (Perhaps this doesn't happen.)
1 Russian armor in Yak (Perhaps this doesn't happen.)
2 Russian fighters in Kaz (Perhaps this doesn't happen.)
1 UK bomber in Nov/Kaz/Cauc
1 UK Sub in sz45 (Plan on it killing the Japan sub.)
1 UK tranny in sz36
1 UK DD AND AC in sz59
1 UK tranny in sz47
1 UK Fighter either in sz59 OR in bury OR with Pearl fleet (1. Which ever you find worse for Japan, in that case, where would you put it?)

To me this is pretty much the worse shape that Japan could be in. 2. If your goal is to make Japan be in the hardest starting position possible, would you go for borneo with a UK tranny and leave your UK AC in sz36 or would the above be the best thing for UK to do? Any other changes that you can see to make Japan be in the roughest starting position possible?

3. As Japan, what would you do in this situation? I buy 1 AC and 1 tranny and save the rest. I usually hit Pearl hard with all that can make it, probably with tranny to take a hit. I also hit China with all inf AND two fighters to try to have the average of 5 inf left over. The two fighters will land on new AC. I hate going for a tranny with a fighter, but I'd probably go for one tranny with my sixth fighter. 4. Would you go for a tranny with a fighter? My second fleet will probably hit another UK ship, maybe sz47/sz36. The problem is that I can't hit sz59, unless I don't go with Pearl or go Pearl light, which neither option I do, so my new fleet and my sz47/sz36 fleet is at risk from 4/5 UK attacking units. 5. Should I not hit pearl? If UK sinks my new fleet on UK2, then Japan will be slowed down even more, perhaps too much to recover.

6. Plan on your Japan sub being killed, but if it survives, would that change your plans much?
5  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: North African Dominance on: May 25, 2009, 05:23:45 am
It's my preferred strategy for the US. I mainly do it to make sure Africa is secured and to limit Japan's growth.

You keep making drops and building up your trannies. Eventually you can enter med with a tranny fleet, meaning you can start making drops anywhere in the med.

I'm glad I never got into AA50. I figured I'd wait a year or two and see what is out there. AA50 isn't really even for sale anymore.

AA42 will most likely be what people play for the next decade. But just like the original, many will still play AAR for years to come.

You can find good AAR strategies and opponents at GTO, www.gametableonline.com. The site is always improving and should even have a save game option in the next month or so. It already has a facebook version that uses a save game system, http://apps.facebook.com/axisandallies/.

It doesn't have a full bidding system in place, but it does have preselectable options for bids. It has about 10 at the moment and should have about 50 in a couple weeks at the latest.

Smiley

I do see what your saying. It was a nice read.

I don't think it is that much of a paradox. It makes sense.

Don't forget that a high number of defenders, when it is greater than the enemy force, is an offensive force in itself. Numbers are very important.

Who asked you to remove them? It took me awhile to find them... I figured they would be here, out of all places. I ended up getting mine from another CSub editor/assistant.

You can get them in one of my posts above, in the link.

Yeah, I prefer Bel/WR too.

But when you do hit Ukraine, do you go with two or three armor?
11  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: Allies need help to combat a sea lion on: April 30, 2009, 09:34:19 am
Because the med fleet will be blocked by a Russian sub, Germany, at most, can attack UK with the following:

6 infantry, 6 armor, 6 fighters, and 1 bomber.
12  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: Allies need help to combat a sea lion on: April 29, 2009, 09:34:41 am
Let me ask this question:

If the Allies botch the first round and Germany takes London on G2 how do the Allies recover?

IMO, If UK falls to Germany AND the allies can't get it back before Germany's next turn, then it's game over for the allies. Even if they can get it back AND keep it, it's probably still game over unless Germany paid a huge price to take UK, i.e. German lost it's entire luftwaffe in the attack.

But... Experienced players wont "botch" the first round. Unless, how you define "botch" includes getting diced. Sometimes, no matter what you do, you will lose a game solely because of the dice. But the majority of the time, the more skilled player will win.

I'm a very conservative player.. I dont think I would do the triple. I used to do the double.

For the double, would you guys bring as much armor as you could to the Ukraine battle or would you bring one extra armor to the WR battle?
14  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: Allies need help to combat a sea lion on: April 29, 2009, 09:10:44 am
I'm a little confused on what your asking.

Based on my above post, German sealion has been stopped..

Unless the allies go KJF, which would not be smart, allied presence in the Atlantic will get much stronger as the game goes on. Between USA and UK, it wont be long before your fleet is either being ignored or it's being destroyed. Russia is in not danger, because of a G1 no land unit build. So Germany will be trading EE/Bal with Russia in no time. As the other allies build up, they can make drops in Africa for a couple turns before they start building up in Nor/Kar/EE.

Once you advance past the first round, it is much harder to say exactly what you would do because it all depends on the exact situation at hand. To learn more about how I would shread the axis to pieces, when you go with 5 trannies on G1, play me.

I'm bb82 @ GTO. If your interested you can use GTO's PM (mail) to get a hold of me to setup a game. They currently have a small presectable bidding system in place, so I'd even let you have an 8 bid (two more units in Africa).
15  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: Allies need help to combat a sea lion on: April 29, 2009, 06:11:23 am
I'm still just lost as to why you would sacrifice your air and navy.

All you have to do to block a German invasion on G2 is the following:

UK1 build should be something like an AC with 3 infantry and an armor. USA and UK should bring all units that can to UK. Best way to do this would be to combine UK fleet and USA fleet at sz8. Russian sub should block the med fleet and a Russian fighter should land in the UK.

There thats it..

You saved UK (Germany only has about a 25% chance), you are now in a strong allied position, and you didn't have to waste your UK air and navy to do it.
