1  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies 1914 / Re: Map Design on: January 03, 2013, 02:17:22 am
I'm not a fan of the "mixed stippled mud" visual style of recent official A&A maps, and was wondering what others would prefer as a map style.

"Solid National Colours" would match those of the pieces.

By "Geographic" I mean a map that looks like a geographic section of a standard atlas, with relief and terrain.

"Solid Terrain Colours" would be green for lowlands, gray for mountains, sand for desert etc. Only relevant if terrain has some effect on movement and combat.

Who's the character in your avatar man?  I have always wondered that?

I was hoping for a general concensus... You all play a lot more than me and I dont have time to be playtesting.

SO the USA starts with 52 IPC's in just the Europe game?

Is this correct?

I haven't used the 9 IPC bonus Soviets get (where did you find that?)

They touch on it here

I think its rolled into the USSR per turn income?
7  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Re: Question regarding loading allied land units onto allied transports on: May 11, 2012, 05:45:10 am
This is covered in the rulebook:

Quote from: Rulebook
Multinational Forces: Transports belonging to a friendly power can load and offload your land units.  This is a three-step process:
1. You load your land units aboard the friendly transport  on your turn.
2. The transport's controller moves it (or not) on that  player's turn.
3. You offload your land units on your next turn.
Unloading in an enemy territory occurs in your scenario in US' combat move phase, followed by the battle.
Unloading in a friendly territory occurs in US' NCM phase.

Thanks, sorry I missed that.

If you've ever had a friend who thinks "I've still got a chance in this" and won't stop until game rules are met...then you'll know the pain Smiley

But I think it's just eliminating any possible scenario where the axis might have the ability to come back and win with troops amassed somewhere.

Yea, it's not a good situation to present new players with either.

Everytime i've played with new players the game drags on because of this assumption that, the victory conditions are not met.

IMO the victory conditions are a major downside of the game, a vp system would be a lot better.
9  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Question regarding loading allied land units onto allied transports on: May 11, 2012, 03:48:24 am
Could someone please clarify the following situation for me.

US has troops in UK, wants to load them into UK transports in the channel.

My understanding is this happens on the UK combat move phase?  Is that correct?  Can the UK load and unload the men at the same time?  When does the combat occur after the move is completed.

Thanks

10  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Re: Ridiculous Victory conditions on: May 11, 2012, 03:17:12 am
Yes, I assumed this would be the case.

So then, my question is why were these victory conditions put into the game in the first place?  Surely another more pragmatic victory condition could have been implemented.  A victory point scoring system, for example.

Another point of note is the +10 IPC bonus for the USSR capture of Berlin?  Useless?

Thanks.

11  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Starting a new game of Eur 40 tonight - using Alpha 3 (Advice needed) on: May 11, 2012, 03:15:24 am
Hi there,

I'm starting a four player game of Eur 40 tonight using Alpha 3 setup.

Are there any mior changes I need to be aware of that havent already been covered in other threads?

So far i've read I need to

Only use Europe No's (duh)
Reduce US NO Income from 30 to 20 if control central and west US
Dont give the USSR extra 2 infantry, but increase their No income by 9 per turn for Asian territories (for balance? I assume?)

Can I use Minor Threats amazing player aids?

What is the US starting income?  Are any other starting incomes affected?

Thanks for your help and advice.

GC.
12  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Europe 1940 / Ridiculous Victory conditions on: May 11, 2012, 02:06:42 am
Is it just me (im still not very good at A&A so throw me a bone here) or is the allied victory condition silly?

You must hold Berlin and Rome for a full round of play?

Why on earth would you ever play to that conclusion?  If the allies manage to hold either capital for a full round of play then the game is more or less finished anyway.

Has anyone played the game WWII: Barbarossa to Berlin?

In that game the Axis has an auto win condition in that if they capture 20VPS worth of cities they win the game, however if they dont manage it then they have to "hold out" against the allies until a predetermined time limit has expired (a vp clock) and if they keep hold of Berlin they "win" (id call it a draw Tongue) the game.

A&A Europe badly needs a system such as this in order to replace the unrealistic Allied victory condition.  Never in any of my games that resulted in allied victories did we have enough time to follow those conditions out to their conclusion.

Sorry if this question has been asked before or you disagree, nevertheless i'd like to hear your thoughts?
