Right. The ferry isn't running through the winter. I could also head your way too -like was said, as long at's it's weekend thing. Maybe we could set up a few games throughout the winter alternating who invades what state. And winter stays as tame as it's been so far. Most of my Saturdays & Sundays are wide open at this point. (I'm a tooling engineer for a metal stamping shop so as long as we don't get any new orders that require 60 hour weeks, I'm good) So we can shoot for the 21st?

I'm 48 and been playing A&A since I was in my teens. I have "Classic", Pacific, Europe, D-Day & now Global (Pacific 1940 & Europe 1940). I mainly play w/ a close freind and my sons. So I guess that makes me one of the "old timers" on here.

Alrighty then! Plan on starting on a Saturday about 10:00 am? That'll leave us the option of playing into the night if need be. Even catch a few ZZZZ's and resume Sunday morning if we have to. Howz'e January 21 or 28 work for anybody?

Still looking? I'd be interested in playing! I cannot seem to find any players in my area. (west Michigan) My daughter lives in Wixom so I'd have a couch to stay on in that area. I'm 48 and a "veteran" of about 12 games of global w/ my sons. I turned my basement into a gaming room for the game. I, like you, am looking for a good opponent. Contact me at maddog77@charter.net if you're still interested.
Regards, Steve

The only thing I don't agree w/ is Axis Victory Conditions. They should have stuck w/ the OOB conditions. The new rules make Global kind of seperate games again. If the US goes w/ the "Germany 1st" campain, wich is almost always the way to win, that leaves Japan pretty much the winner in the Pacific. That's how I've been winning as the Axis. Japan pulls it off 1st.

I always go for tech rolls early in the game. I buy 1, maybe 2 dice per turn and go for it. I usually end up getting some type of tech weapon. I'm particularly fond of Improved Ship Yards and Super Subs for the US or Japan. Long range air craft is always good. Heavy Bombers are not the awesome weapon they used to be in earlier A&A games. You roll only 2 dice/bomber and still only get one dice to count as a hit. I do like Advanced Artillary and Improved IC's for Russia. Jet Fighters for Germany works quite well too. I think those that use house rules to nix tech rolls are probably not experinced players and do not know how to counter an enemy w/ tech weapons. For me, I like a good challenge! Maybe I'll lose a game someday. (It's been a looooong time since I've lost a game)

If your going to attack japan with Russia it need to be done later in the game.... I like to back off a bit at first while I get a couple units on the western border of china. Then when japan is just about to go after Calcutta and china is almost out Russia moves in on all fronts taking either Manchuria/Korea or both and also back up china on their western front. This causes all sorts of problems for japan because they're usually a little short on land units by this time.
I find this interesting. It's been my expereince that Russia can ill-afford any additional units sent over China way as it's got Germany coming in. At least while I'm playing the Axis.

One thing I know is that if I'm Japan, and Russia stacks all 18 Inf. together on R1, Japan will pounce on J1 w/ everthing it can muster. I still invade China & sever the Burma road, but w/o the Russian Inf. threatening Japan, I find it very effective for blitzing & gaining valuable Russian IPC's and focusing on China & India on J2.
Would you still attack in alpha when it's 18 inf + an AA? I've played 2 games of Alpha now. Yep -sure would. (And have.)

The thing is, while it's expensive, it doesn't burn your whole income, so there would still be units going onto England. It's not like it would be empty as a result of this.
But that's the thing; if Germany is threatening sealion you need everyhting you can to defend London. Blowing 22 IPCs on things that won't help London 1st turn is a death wish once Germany sees it. UK1 buys need to be more cautious. I would have to agree w/ you Mantlefan. Repulsing Sealion would be my 1st concern, as in this game, Sealion seems to be very doable if the Allies let their guard down.
