Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies 2nd Edition / Agressive Russian Strategy

I don’t like it.
1. If the German Sub hit and the Russian sub misses, you have to drop troops in England, most likely. That is counter productive. 2. If you make it through the sea battle, your fleet is scrapped because you left it in the open.
3. You also fail to boost the British navy.
4. You leave the German Baltic fleet intact. This not only allows a harder hit against the Brit navy, it allows the Germans to counter in Algeria with the same move you used to take it.
5. The land battle relies on luck since the odds are marginally in your favor. I have found that when I have to rely on luck I will usually fail. If the land attack fails, Germany can sink your fleet and evacuate the Armor from Finland to Algeria.
My suggestion is if you want to try to get Algeria for the Russians, transport 1Inf to Canada, use your sub to hit the Baltic fleet with your fighters, and if your lucky Germany will withdraw from Algeria giving you the walk in on R2. If not you didn’t loose anything you can land your infantry back in Finland after the UK takes it. This is assuming that you build the AC with US fighter support.
Personally, I will probably continue to use the Russian fleet as fodder, either offensively in the Baltic or defensively in the North Sea.

you may also be referring to myself, yanny and dasewokss (AKA NatFedMike) who posted here awhile ago. we all go to the same school, and we are all seniors. Wow, how time flys. I remember being a bit hesitant to offer yanny a face to face game when he thought he might be coming to AZ since he was so young. Little Yanny's all grown up!

I remember when "smokin' in the boys room" came out. I never realy smoked but I loved that kind of rebelious stuf. Motley Crue was my 80s band. I am sure my opinions are different than alot of you because I was in high school. I don't realy have a favorite now, I do like Judas Priest though... Breakin' the the law, Breakin' the the law! Some good memories there...

Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies 2nd Edition / Which event would most likely top off an annoying game?

I did have a game once where the Russian player in about the 20th hour of a weekend marathon game looked at me with an odd grin, laughed hysterically and fell out of his chair unconscious. We were as is our custom, well medicated. Its funny how long games tend to evolve into a contest of who makes the least mistakes and who has the highest tolerance for alcohol.

There are several utilities available that basicly amount to a map file that you email along with your turn orders to your opponent.
Not near as good as a face to face game, but when you have a hard time finding players or your looking for some varied competition it works.

So a war could then drag on and on. But the americans would finally win when they make their nukes. (would need a lot but they were a huge leap ahead of competition here if used fast and in masse)
This is actually probably not true. Germany was just as close if not further in its development of nuclear weapons. In fact I have read that with out what we learned from Germany after VE we would not have had our ready nearly as soon as we did. If anything this would have been an alternate cold war. Other than that I agree with most of what you said.

8mm is a good round. I have a 1941 issue K98 and an M1 Garand. I was considering using one of them for elk the year before I got my 7mm Mag.
I shot about twenty rounds through both of them to see how they did with hand load hunting rounds. At 100 yards I could cover my 8mm groups with a quarter. The 30-06 was about the size of a silver dollar. Of course the Garand is a gas fed semi-auto so there is some loss there. The other thing is that 8mm left a pretty ugly bruise on my shoulder, it kicks like a mule. That is a bad quality for a combat round.

Well then, the 7.62 x 39 is under powered for its size. If you want a .30 then go with the 7.62 x 51 at a minimum.
By the way, in your original post you say "30-6" if you mean 30-06 then that is not 7.62 x 51. 7.62 x 51 NATO is .308, 30-06 is much bigger.
