211  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies 1942 2nd Edition / Re: Is China at least 3 territories? on: July 15, 2012, 04:29:04 pm

Wow...said something nice about the games. But wait, I thought All other AA games equaled "Candyland" in comparision to G40?

Greg, I'm surprised you actually use the "internet"- seeming how you think Triple A/Online players are inferior to your boys at GenCon.

Shiloe,

I know we jab at each other a lot, but please don't ever put words in my mouth when you know they aren't true.

You know I never said that and that you are the one I believe have beat the FTF players down by making comments like, "they have no idea to play the game" Etc.

I never nor will I ever say that anyone is inferior to any one else especially when it comes to playing AA. All I have said that it is a board game. And when online players come to play FTF, the are in for a big surprise when it comes to playing FTF.

I thought we agreed that we will never really know if one is better than another. So, I am not really sure if you are serious or not, but I don't appreciate you putting words in my mouth regarding this. If anything, the whole point, is that online players talk smack about the games but when it comes to playing FTF, well there is one excuse after another.

That is why it is so great that I will get to meet Dave J. again...

Peace,
Greg Smorey
Axis & Allies Tournament Director, GM-GEN CON/Origins/SG

First spell my name right...Shiloh

Secondly, you HAVE personally attacked online players...don't make me pull out the emails...checkmate.

Third, let's throw some ideas around here...what if we were to create tournaments for each of the games here at AA.org: say the new 2nd edition 1942, the new 1941 game, G40 and maybe AA50 (though I think that's on its way out the door).

These tournaments would be qualifiers so to speak.  Each of these tournaments would use the format that you use at the FTF tournaments- GenCon/Origins, barring the time constraints of course since online gamers go live or use TripleA/PBF.

The finalists (2 teams from each game type) of each of these tournaments wins a weekend pass to GenCon maybe even with a Hotel stay, and they will all earn and automatic bid to play in the Semi-Finals of each game type.  Or if you have a Masters tournament- they earn automatic bids to the Masters.

It can happen.  I can organize it.  The gauntlet has been laid.  Those are the terms.  What do you think???

The bid system is similar to what we do here- not really a big deal IMO
213  Finding Players / Events / Re: GenCon Indy 2012 on: July 15, 2012, 04:07:25 pm
I've been to Greg's tournys once.  Although I don't agree with the formats of some of the games (ex 1942 and AA50) it works for them.  AA.org players are used to playing a different way.

Greg and I have had this debate over the years of which players are better- AA.org/TripleA or GenCon crew.  Having been involved with both, I know the online guys have the edge.  Greg will always lend a hand out to the online players to come down and challenge them but its on their terms and format which many here may not like.  Time constraints are not the issue, format is.

They play the 42 w/o NatObj in AA50- I refuse to play that version- much prefer the 41 w/NatObj.  When asked to let players have the choice he refused saying that it "saves time" and "that the 41 develops into the 42 anyway"- false and false.  I was gonna go in 2009 and 2010 but I just could not agree with that tourny format- strips the game down to nothing.

Then in the AA42 game you have the wacky bonus system where LA is worth nothing for example.  There are proven strategies where there is the possibility of gain LA- this limits that.  Again, I think they should just play by the rules.

Greg came to me to help develop the G40 tourny rules, so if anyone complains about it- you can blame me not Greg.  Had to bring him up to speed on the Alpha development though and that took a while.

All in all, Greg runs a solid show there, so you will have some fun and you will meet some challenging players- not as good as online though IMHO.

Yes that is true...but its still a good game and the 1942-2nd edition in essence IS the AA50 reprint- that's the best were getting with that and that OK with me.  C'mon this is WOTC we're talking about here- I also heard they STILL made mistakes on the production of the 42- 2nd edition and 41 game.  huh  Bafoons.

Greg, I'm surprised you actually use the "internet"- seeming how you think Triple A/Online players are inferior to your boys at GenCon.

I actually have a way where online players can play the best FTF at GenCon- not this year of course, but next.  I think you might find it intriguing...you will have to compromise and work with me, but I believe you will at the very least entertain the idea seriously...are you interested???

Got the idea from running the Detroit Dominion Qualifier for Nationals (which went really well BTW).

Questioneer, are you still "looking for games" while you are "too busy?"

If you felt so bad about your UK1, you could have just redid it, like I said you could or stand pat and play.

I am going to bed. Let me know when you are ready to play a real game.

Jim I give more tea bags than lipton.

No not looking for games right now (just doing the tourny games), I usually play more from Nov-Apr, that doesn't mean I don't read the forums in between.  From May to October my schedule is a little hectic at times so I don't want to commit to a handful of games.

I don't feel bad about anything.  In fact, its been a while so I don't even remember that game.  Obviously its on your mind.  I must be in your head or something.  You'll get a chance to play me again soon enough- I'll let you in on a little secret though, you're low on the priority list- mid-tier players just get that kind of treatment- I know you understand.

You get your rest, I know you'll need it.  Do me a favor and PM me in November for a game.  Maybe you'll get lucky and play me in the tourny- wouldn't that be an honor for you??? grin

Mid tier players such as yourself might find the allies at an advantage, because it is easy to do a little bit of everything, defend russia and win.

Mid tier, huh. There truly is no bound to the idiotic manure that buzzes around your empty cow brain and cannot help but tumble out onto your keyboard for the rest of the world to see.  You take pride in being the village idiot, and for that, at least, you are to be commended.  You are self-aware and you are one of the lucky few that found something you are good at and you have embraced it.  You know that we are laughing at you and not with you and you relish in that fact.

Cow, you are a no tier player.  You have never won anything except the title for most posts per hour on this site between May 2012 and the present.  Your failure to take your ADHD medication on a regular basis keeps you from being able to finish any tournament or a league season. Hell, oft times you cannot even finish games that you start after running your mad cow mouth up and down this website ad nauseam.

Don't worry folks.  He'll disappear again soon just like he has done in the past.  He's all moo and no beef. Just an empty cud.

Well said Dutchman.  He's a good analyst but only mid-tier. cheesy  He's not superior like me. wink  Play strength is only mid-tier also. grin  He thinks waaaaay too high of himself. rolleyes  Poor fella, he needs guys like us to validate himself, otherwise he wouldn't feel the need to post so much. cry

OK but just to be clear, the China player spotted a mistake made by the US player and corrected it before China and UK did their turns.  It was still the allies turn.  We would not correct an NCM if an axis power were next in the turn order.

Right exactly, this kind of thing doesn't effect the game since in no way the American NCM effects China in any way or vice versa.

Saved on my desktop just in case they wanted to take this off...but I figured they won't this time.

I hear WOTC has gone through some management changes lately and things are looking better...rumor anyway, take that for what its worth.

Since 2011 with the production of Ikusa to the present it "feels" like some good changes have been made.  It seems that they are finally listening to our requests.  Gotta give em props for finally getting it right I suppose.

Some points:

1. Includes new Italian miniatures as well as new mechanized infantry, transport, and anti-aircraft artillery pieces.

2. Includes new ANZAC miniatures as well as new mechanized infantry, and anti-aircraft artillery.

3. Still have the chits for ICs and air/naval bases

4. All other components seems the same- does say its "refreshed" so hopefully the map is fixed (Korea z6, Palau spelling, Honolulu location, brighter convoy markings, same contrast color scheme for both maps)

1941 comes out soon and it is cheap.

I thought of putting my global boards up for sale. I don't like playing global, it is a horrible game to play live, it never gets finished.

Funny that you say this, b/c after about 50 games of G40 (20 of them with the Final Alpha), I too am actually getting bored of it a little.  Now that I know the main strategies/openings, maybe I will play this a couple times a year for kicks.  I really think the 42 2nd edition is gonna be "THE Game" now for AA- seems like its AA50 status.  From what I'm hearing its much improved an can be actually played in 6hrs unlike Global- 12-18hrs- uggh.
