1051  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: R1 - To Defend ARC or LEN or not? on: April 07, 2007, 05:19:44 pm
I don't know if I agree. If Russia took Norway using a series of 2 or 3 strafe attacks (if alone) the 3 extra IPC mean Russia gets an extra INF every turn with little to no effort after that b/c there is no new border created after that.

Be advised the only time Russia should consider that would be if Germany didn't put stock in a Navy.
1052  Axis & Allies Miniatures / A&A Miniatures (Original) / Getting started on: April 07, 2007, 12:39:28 pm
Hey all,

My buddies and I were wondering if we should give Mini's a try. Just siting on the outside looking in I would say it looks a little more like a D&D game then a A&A game. If so thats fine I play both. I just had some noob questions.

1) how to get started, how many units are recommended to start? How many of each unit are recommended?

2) About how long does the game take to play? On the box of the A&A revised game it says 3 hours for a game. So I don't think I can believe any thing Avalon Hill says about game times.

3) Where do you get maps for the game?

4) do you guys / gals like mini's more then the other A&A games? How are they diffrent?

I know I have a lot of questions but I think you folks can handle it b/c I'm sure y'all had the same questions / concerns when you started. If you could give me the run down I would be thankful.

1053  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Guadalcanal / Re: Axis & Allies Guadalcanal September 2007 on: April 07, 2007, 12:05:07 pm
I am not to familiar with the battle didn't know if the UK had a hand in the pie or not.

How do you think players will employ additional troops into the battle? I ask b/c I got the impression that it would be diffrent then the traditional way the other A&A games have in the past.

Do you think they would employ diffrent kinds of fighters with diffrent stats for each nation?
How many players to you think it will be?
1056  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: German strategy for building AC on: April 07, 2007, 08:52:26 am
Hey Nix,

What would a G1 purchase look like then if it were you? Also when you get your Navy where would you ideally deploy them?
1057  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies: D-Day / Re: D-Day Strategy on: April 07, 2007, 08:48:57 am
I see your point. I was thinking it would be easy for the Allies to take Cherbourg b/c its so hard for the Germans to reinforce; althoe, the same rule would apply toward the end of the game.

Do you find you have a favorite battle group? I mean x INF, x ARM, x ART, I ask b/c you can only have 8 units per space in this one. Or do you just take what you can get b/c the reinforcement table and dice decide what you get?

See in A&A classic and in some cases in revised you can use deployment strategies like shuck-shuck to get troops to the war, here the whole battle concepts are just different enough most of those don't apply.

1058  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: German strategy for building AC on: April 06, 2007, 03:40:45 pm
Let me be more specific:

I use the Luft Waffe to strafe the Allied Navy on combat movement. Then on NCM I move them back to the front line to reinforce. I think this way gets the most blood for the buck, serving both the land and sea.
1059  Axis & Allies / Axis and Allies Revised Edition / Re: German strategy for building AC on: April 06, 2007, 03:36:37 pm
Hey all,

I have never chosen to have the Germans build a navy when Russia was still in play I would always put troops on the front line to make a stale mate. As I would do that I would buy fighters to strafe any allied navy nearby. So my question is when would you buy the Navy what ever you decide it should be? Should it be sooner or a few turns into the game after the line is drawn between Germany and Russia?

I don't just give up any real estate if it can be helped however, I would prefer to hold my IC's both of them are on the front line.

Got a question:  "When reviewing the map please consider both historical accuracy and game play."

I haven't been paying that close of attention when does the map take place? I'm asking b/c the UK has a great deal of influence over the South Pacific and Japan doesn't.

Side note: I like how the US has the Philippines nice touch. I also like how Japan has all the convoy routes in that area.

I like the map; however, do you have a proposal for unit starting locations? I think thats where at least half of the accuracy will come from. Also I think you should take into consideration that for example in North Africa you may have both German and Italian troops in the same places. (I know that that came up just not sure where that led).

Question: was Africa spelled Afrika at the time I looked it up in Websters the only reference to the alternitave was with South Africa starting in 1908. I hate to be a pain but I'll look into it, but if any of you know off the top of your head I would be grateful.

Thanks for listening to the ramblings of an outsider looking in.

The urban idea would be awesome. I think they just scratches the surface in 2. I think they could do a lot better, for example in the game first to fight you could send 2 or 3 Marines (fire team based game) and your self to clear a room that would also be bad a**. Still I love the Banshee I wish the humans had something to counter it.

Maybe motor cycles that could be cool, but I don't see how you could use that and shoot at the same time.

Mines would be a cool addition remote and timed.

I think there maybe more aliens in this one, b/c there was that giant fly trap that had both Chief and the arbiter s/he it will have to have a part in this one.

I think the pistol should be total bad a** in this one maybe sacrifice range for fire power? I don't know how well that would work.

Maybe flash bang grenades to stun bad guys that would have potential, the game makers would have a field day with the aliens response's to them.

I just don't want to be left feeling how I felt and the end of two. It seemed like part two should have been an expansion pack to part one. Don't get me wrong I love dispensing indiscriminate justice my buddies and I just felt like we were left hanging. I'm hoping that it will all come around and make this a bad a** trilogy.

I thought risk was awesome! Then I found A&A classic, later I moved to A&A revise, A&A D-Day....

I like it b/c its a strategy game you can start with at a young age untill you can move to more complex games like A&A. Like many of you said it has its place, I'm just not there any more.

You know how you could customize your spartin in the VS mode. I hope you will be able to in 3 but your customization will apply to your character in the actual game as well.

Also I'm with you guys we need more guns like maybe a 203 on the assult rifle (similar to what you said with the shot gun). I would also like to see smoke grenades. I know some of you won't care about smoke b/c you think that the computer units just see right through it, but in conflict dessert storm 1 and 2 I think they did a good job about fixing that so I know it can be done. I also think they could ad a heavy machine gun that was portable. Maybe you have to "set it up" so then you get a view like you do with the sniper rifle.

Its hard to add weapons when we are not sure what kind of terrain they will be battling on. Are they going to be in space, on earth, the Allen home world space ships? I'd love to see a level where Chief hops into a ty fighter (star wars), viper (Battlestar Galactica), equivalent and blows bad guys up in space, just a thought.

As far as weapons like R&C I don't think I would care for it then. Don't get me wrong I like that game too, but what I like about Halo is that it uses conventional weapons in a space setting, like starship troopers. I just think it would take away from the genre of the game.
