Geeze, I'd hate to how tired you were of the Beatles in the late 60's frimm.

I wasn't born until the late 60's. I'm just weary of The Beatles. I like music. I was an audio engineer in my misspent youth. I've heard a lot and there are a few things I'm just weary of. Surely I'm not alone in having things you wouldn't mind not hearing all the time.

Re:Hoffman and covers. I was at a jazz quartet show a few weeks ago and the guitarist did a Beatles cover. Because he is a stellar musician and the Beatles did a few good songs  wink it wasn't horrible by any means, just sort of pedestrian. It was a crowd pleaser but I'd have rather he'd gotten a bit off the beaten path.

I'd really like a year off from, The Beatles. I'm just very weary of them.

What do you mean? Like merchandising and new compilations and whatnot... because in that respect I would definitely agree.

I mean I wouldn't mind not hearing one of their tunes or a cover of one of their tunes for an entire year. If I also saw no evidence of their existence for a year I wouldn't mind either. The last straw was going to hear this vocal jazz group I love playing with my local symphony orchestra. They covered The Beatles two or three times in the second half. Uggghhhh. And that wasn't the first time or the first group to do so.

I'm rooting for a meteor strike.  cheesy  I dislike both of these teams.

The most telling thing to me is that every one of his teammates flipped on him, which to me is a serious condemnation of ALL cyclists. This whole episode does not paint a pretty picture of professional cycling.

Whales are mammals and they do drown if they don't get air from the surface.  Not sure killer whales kill other whales though.

Orcas are mammals as well.

I'm surprised that we don't see more A&A cameos in pop culture.

It isn't the kind of 'geek' that is in vogue. It isn't popular enough to make a joke about or other reference to really.

Emperor Taiki are you rich? Do you make more than $250,000 dollars a year? Are you a hedge fund manager getting all your income from dividends? If you aren't I'm not suggesting taxing you.

We are in the middle of a recession. The austerity measures (the spending cuts) in an attempt to reduce the debt (the government is having no trouble borrowing money and is doing so very cheaply) are misguided because we are in a recession. Governments need to spend more in a recession getting people to work to increase the demand and end the recession.

There aren't enough jobs for people to make the money to increase demand to make more jobs. The government should be spending more money on public works to put money in people's hands and create demand that creates more jobs. There is a lesson on this in our own history and Hoover tried what the government seems to want to try now and it made things worse.

The debt does need to be addressed but not right now. What needs to happen is to put people to work.

And if the debt is so important why does one side so strongly object to increasing revenue i.e. taxes? Taxes are lower than ever in a number of ways but very profitable industries keep reaping all sorts of tax windfalls. Corporate profits are at all time highs yet they aren't hiring people. My company doesn't need a tax break. It needs orders.

Chart and discussion. I suppose it is easy to figure which side I fall on. (Diamond and Saez)

Taiki is mistaken about it not being good economics. The US 'defaulting' on its debt if the debt ceiling is not raised would be bad economics. A government shut down would be bad economics.

That this even needs to be a discussion is bad economics and bad governance. Until this past year the raising of the debt ceiling was a routine act. And if intransigence (and petulance from my POV) will not allow to be performed what has always been a routine house-cleaning matter for the government and this is what is necessary to allow things to continue functioning normally it should be done.

I think it would be better if the intransigence that has led this discussion were stopped. That what had always been a simple 'house-cleaning' matter for the government has come to this point is unconscionable.

Mint the coin. It would be irresponsible not to. Winning quote from the article, "Krugman and others also say that, as crazy as this sounds, it’s less crazy than Congress forcing the country into a default by not raising the debt ceiling. Krugman does acknowledge that it may be “undignified”: “Here’s how to think about that: we have a situation in which a terrorist may be about to walk into a crowded room and threaten to blow up a bomb he’s holding. It turns out, however, that the Secret Service has figured out a way to disarm this maniac—a way that for some reason will require that the Secretary of the Treasury briefly wear a clown suit,” he writes. “And the response of the nervous Nellies is, ‘My god, we can’t dress the secretary up as a clown!’ ”

Te'o was pretty much a non-factor.
That surprised me, but yesterday I saw a mock NFL draft that had him at 16th pick of the draft.

Before or after the game?  smiley

He looked tentative and out of position and when he was in position he couldn't seem to make a play. Some of that is on how good The Tide executed. That O-line was spectacular and that Lacy (Tide TB) had great vision and patience. I don't think Te'o is a bad player just a bit over-hyped because of his misfortune and being a good guy. Te'o's game stats. Shazier's stats. Te'o had more interceptions but fewer sacks and I saw one stat line that had tackles for loss which also goes to Shazier.

Oregon and Alabama would have been a great game, don't think Oregon wins, but it would have been a much better game. It was clear that ND was no match for Alabama. Kansas State was no match for Oregon.

I know we will have a plus one game in 2015, I hope in ten years to have a playoff system.

Maybe but anytime the Ducks come up against a good defense they don't look all that special and the Tide D is better than Stanford's. And the high powered offense can't score when it's on the sidelines as Bama just pounded down their throat. It would have been a better first half but the Tide would just have ground them down.

I didn't think Bama was as good as they obviously are but ND was about what I expected. Te'o was pretty much a non-factor.

I disagree with your list as well Mallery except the top 3 and "All Good Things."

Your most egregious error  smiley is leaving off "In The Pale Moonlight."  If you're gonna trot out all of that DS9 and "Caretaker" from Voyager (really? not to pile on Voyager but that isn't even top 5 Voyager let alone top 10 of all Trek) how can you leave off one of the best Sisko, best Garak and best spy stories in all of Trek?
