well, hopefully the paratoopers have a range of only 2 and they attack at 0 after their 3 or less, so the captial thing really ins't an issue.

also it is much harder for airborne to retreat so when they airborne assault they should have the same retreat rules as an amphibious landing.

Market Garden was the largest airborne operations in history or something like that so that attack would be represent by at least 3 paratooper units.
So when you make airborne units 1-2 really your saying 10,000 men with rifles and submachineguns has the same combat power as  50,000-150,000 men with armored vehicles and heavy weapons
917  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets talk Trucks! on: May 10, 2009, 09:35:05 am
trucks do not move soldiers thousands of miles. lets try to only add new units if it is realistic

Trucks and jeeps were what helped the Soviets win the war... that is exactly what trucks do, move infantry thousands of miles so they don't have to walk - they also move their supplies to maintain rapid advances.

your wrong, not one truck in the whole history of World War Two transported infantry or supplies single handedly a thousand miles. If you have ever looked at a map of Europe or the Pacific ocean this would be pretty obvious. Certainly you dont think their were trucks driving from the Factories in the Urals to the Kursk salient! All strategic movement of land units was done by trains.

918  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets talk Trucks! on: May 09, 2009, 05:31:46 am
If you give the trucks the ability to transport men 2 spaces the cost must go up at least 1-2 IPC.

here is a new idea:

trucks:  considered like land transports and if attacked are removed and cant be soakers..

during NCM they can transport 2 infantry or 1 infantry and one Artillery TWO SPACES if they start in the same space.

the cost of these units is 4 IPC and again they dont attack or defend.

They don't?  If they have gas, they do.

I'm still thinking that maybe trucks could count as supply.  How would fleets work?...Nah, supply would probably add more complication.

Trucks 0-0-2-4.  I agree.

all major movement in world war two is done by train, trucks only take crap from the nearest railhead to the front. If you moved all the equipment by trucks you would destroy all the roads and the maintence on the trucks would not be worth it
plus railroads are so much cheaper

IL, you wouldn't need limitations on how many paratoopers you can buy if they were realistic and 0-1 units

you have not given one reason they should be 1-2 excpet that that is the way OOB

and also why are paratoopers able to retreat in airborne assaults, that is not realistic at all.
920  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project on: May 08, 2009, 03:38:14 pm
Hello everyone,

Long time reader, player and recent convert to the forum,

I have noticed that this thread is way off track.  If you read FMG's initial post it is to provide better playing pieces for AA (AA50 in particular).  So the normal units are being offered along with additional (premium) pieces.

From a business point of view, each additional mold and playing piece is additional cost and it has to be absorbed by the business or the customer.  Unless you are willing to pay for it, please don't ask for additional pieces that will not affect the AA50 game play.

From a player's point of view (mine), I want everything under the sun but don't really want to pay for it (or else, I would be buying premium pieces and hand painting it like some people on the board are doing).

Please bring this thread back on track as I have not heard from FMG regarding this project.

I personally am disappointed when I check to see if there is any new reply to this thread and find comments that are not relevant to the project.

These are my views and hopefully I am not the only one that feels that way.

If anyone wants to comment on this, please start a new thread.

Thank you,

Loyal follower and avid AA player.

so you dont want people talking aobut adding new peices to the game?

but there is really nothing else to discuss. FMG has not given us any pics so what are is too be said.

most people have already stated what new models they would like to see for each country so unless you or someone else have some new idea's this topic is pretty much dead except for the additional unit discusion

you don't like universal carriers?   tongue

Has nothing to do with that, my little turtle friend. Only 60 individuals are interested in this new pieces, that will make $ 6000 and that is too short even for one single mold. Why you think FMG have left the thread ?

why are molds so expensive?

FMG better come through on this, although i suggest they save money and do not produce the truck peice which is useless for adding units to the game as it represents nothing. Better yet they could spend the money they saved on cool units like jet fighers.
923  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets talk Trucks! on: May 07, 2009, 06:02:45 pm
I was doing Mech infantry ( half tracks)

Trucks? what are they gonna be used for? The game has no logistics.

right, so FMG is  wasting six molds
924  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets talk Trucks! on: May 07, 2009, 04:12:35 pm
In FMG's original post they said there would be both trucks and half-tracks
925  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets talk Trucks! on: May 07, 2009, 03:07:55 pm
i thought those were the rules for mechanized infantry?

arnt those usually represented by halftracks and other APCs?
926  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project on: May 07, 2009, 01:36:24 pm
i love universal carriers!
927  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets talk Trucks! on: May 07, 2009, 01:34:51 pm
Well i have no idea what these units represent and think FMG would spend its time better producing a new air or naval peice or maybe even a cavalry peice

in BOTB they were just transports however in a grand strategy game like AA50 all land movement is done my rail so it does not makes sence for these truck to be ferrying equipment around.

they could represent motroized infantry, that is infantry with dedicated un-armored vehicles transporting them, however then it is a major unit in the game as most infantry of the western armies were motorized.

i think if you want a realistic motorized infantry units( i would only add new units if they added realism) you would also have to the change the stats of the other land units signifigantly.
928  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets Talk Paratroopers! on: May 06, 2009, 02:32:41 pm
the paratooper chooses the enemy casaulty though, so it it could take out a tank or a fighter that might other wise kill many of your units while a tank will mostly just kill inf. also it moves two space like an air unit, which is more versitle than moving two spaces like a land unit. plus the first round of combat is always the most important anyways. In general tanks are better becasue they can defend, and this is good becasue everyone should purchase many more tanks than paratoopers. But airborne units also have a purpose, one that is congurent with their historical counterpart
929  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Lets Talk Paratroopers! on: May 05, 2009, 05:12:04 pm
ok, but i have also said they should have a 3 or less attack the first round or before the battle even begins, plus they get to choose their target

if anything these units are overpowerd and steel some of the crusiers limelight. maybe it should be a two or les attack any be before battle starts

THis is what I have so far

Airbourne
Attack: 0
Defence: 1
Movement: 1
Cost: 3

Special rules
Airbourne units are land units
if in the combat move phase you pay 3 ipcs for each airborne unit may move like an air unit to attack a land terriotry 2 spaces away.
It may reamain in a terriotry it attacked this turn

Surprise!:airborne units may preform a specail attack before battle starts where they pick any of the enemy units and on a 3 destorys it.

Airborne cannot retreat during a combat where they have preformed and airborne assault

930  Axis & Allies / Other Axis & Allies Variants / Re: Kursk? on: May 05, 2009, 04:51:44 pm
It uses logistics by way of steps that each HQ can allocate to combats. Each HQ starts at 4 steps and is reduced by combat. it will replenish but not fully unless you spend replacement points. So if you keep attacking you wont get many replacements.

It also has rail lines that can be strafed to prohibit movement, but can also help out to bring units to the front.

so it is more like an actual wargame except with A&A peices.

I kinda liked moving the supply to the front
you know I bet you could make a lot more coin if you just made your games with smaller maps.

Like for your kursk game, it could be just as excting a game with half the hexes and with rulels more in line with BOTB

Instead of having a 4 by 5 foot map why dont you produce a map that is a thrid or fourth the size, but sells between $60-$80

i think their would be alot more interest and it would help wizards of the coast relize how much of a market their is for A&A based games

just my thoughts

also have you considered making a game that just involves the southern front at kursk, that part of the battle is very similar and of closer scale to BOTB
