76  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition / Re: AA50 Rules Errata on: January 20, 2012, 03:59:32 pm
If I am not mistaken, the fact that air alone can w/d from an amphious assault is new to AA50.

So in your example.  The 2 ftrs can withdraw, while the tank has to go until the death.

You're all welcome for my accurate predicition.

MASSACRE!

I hope you didn't hurt your arm patting yourself on the back there, Captain Obvious!

Nobody (who knows anything about football) really thought Denver had a chance.

perhaps another game at a lower unit level like Advanced Third Riech may be more to your liking.

I like the global view that is A&A.

Remember this is a strategic war game based loosely on WWII history.  I agree with the others that the artillery 'piece' is representative of more than one gun.

Recall these are pieces that represent a strategic capability (an abstraction, if you will).

When the artillery piece was introduced, it was done to fill the gap between the mostly offensive tank and the mostly defensive infantry piece.  The best place was an offensive/defensive piece.  Offensive since it attacked at a "2" and boosted an other unit (inf) to increase it's attack capability.  Defensive since it was 1 IPC cheaper than a tank.
80  Other Forums / General Discussion / Re: Are Superbowl Champions - WORLD Champions? (Poll) on: January 04, 2012, 03:52:06 pm
They're World champions because right now North America is the only place that American football is played.  I didn't know that the winner of the super bowl wins because they are the most popular team (popularity has NOTHING to do with the title).  As already pointed out, the NFL IS trying to expand to other countries.  This is by no means something more than a first step as the fans who attend the games overseas go to watch more out of curiosity rather than being a true Fan.  Hell, most British watching the game have no idea what the Rules are!

Next, are you going to argue that the Miss Universe pagent is mis-labelled as well since there's no contingent from Mars?

Guess what?  There's no life (as we know it) on Mars to partipate in the Miss Universe pagent, just like there's no country to participate in the NFL world championship outside the USA.  That does not preclude calling the Super Bowl champions, the world champions.

I am sure there are countries in which Soccer is not played in an organized league fashion.  All I need to point out is one, and then there can be no world cup (following your line of thinking)

it's really not logistically possible to have a 'world' league.

That's a bunch of horse dung.  Soccer seems to manage ok.

But to my point about 'world' popularity (that you just ignored), it'd be too costly to fly around the world to play in countries that do not have a strong American football following.  Not enough income to offset the cost(s).

Trying getting 60,000 indians to watch an american football game, every week for 19 weeks.  Hell, even some American Cities were not selling out the games.

Not going to happen.

I can`t believe people actually think that by winning the superbowl you should be allowed to call yourself a `World` Champion.

Ridiculous!

Do you think that American football would be a popular / played sport in say, India?  Or Nigeria?  Or China?

Besides, it's really not logistically possible to have a 'world' league.
83  Axis & Allies / Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition / Re: Balance in 1941 setup w/o National Objectives? on: December 16, 2011, 03:59:41 pm
Playing without National Objectives emphasizes the 'reusable' pieces & tactics.

Since income is less, each unit is even more important.  Taking and holding is key.  This slows the rapid (somewhat careless) Axis advancement seen with games using N.O.s greatly.  With NOs. the axis can throw pieces away, since they have the cash to replace them easily.

I don't wish him harm, but the dude is human, and all humans die.

You probably are in a 'Dead pool' too, right?

Talk Manning into retirement based on the potential threat to his health (is he more likely to suffer a severe back injury that could cause paralysis).  then ask him to be the QB coach.

This is a tough situation the Colts face, that's for sure.

One thing I can say, this is a game for the young, so sometimes youth must be given that chance to play.

Go Chicago Blackhawks!
87  Axis & Allies / 1941 Scenario / Re: How to stop the US on: November 15, 2011, 02:42:59 am
If US goes full against Germany, Japan can threaten USA from the pacific coast or Japan can aid Europe with it's large fighter corp.

I like the fighters in europe, easier to achieve as the ftrs have the range, japan can afford to give them away and buy additional ones.

Not sure what Germany is doing in your game as you really don't speculate.  Tanks?  buying ftrs is a good move to help the defense of fortress europe and keep the allied fleet honest.
88  Finding Players / Find Players / Re: Moving to Illinois any player? on: October 27, 2011, 05:34:01 pm
I will say that the day after Thanksgiving is a traditional day of war here in Homer Glen, Ill

we play AA50 (1941), with a few tweaks called 'The Chicago Rules'

See thread: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=21653.0
Those rules might be an older version, but any tweaks were small (if any at all)

Also incorporate Tech via a Point System

Sorry I don't frequent this site that often.  Please PM me in the future if I post about a SW suburb game day, that way I will get an email that I have a PM.

Again, sorry I didn't reply to your post.
